Not all of us. I would suggest forcing them to go in and work on the wards of people suffering from COVID. Naturally there wouldn't be enough PPE for them because the money was being wasted on policing the COVIDiots.Onelife wrote: 10 Oct 2020, 22:33You’re probably right John but I’m sure we all share David’s sentiments.towny44 wrote: 10 Oct 2020, 20:05That could seriously overwhelm the police and legal system.david63 wrote: 10 Oct 2020, 14:18The solution is simple - if they don't pay their fine then it doubles every day until they do. I have heard feedback of what it is like working on a COVID ward - it is horrifying.

As horrible at is, it's a bit like saying don't become a firefighter if you don't like fighting fires or don't join the army if you don't ever want to be shot at, because at some point sh*t happens.

In fairness it's not all up North acting like idiots. I don't know about mounted police I think a water canon would have been more appropriate. Absolute madness.

A few weeks ago Johnson had the opportunity to lock us down, at the time my hindsight told me that he hadn't gone far enough and to keep bars open was stupidity. He blew it the first time, but he still has a chance to resolve it before it gets out of control.
We are on the same trajectory as the likes of France and Spain, the difference is we run 2-4 weeks behind (although some seem to like comparing todays numbers in the UK with todays numbers in Spain and France - that is just naive stupidity). He needs to take some firm and decisive action now otherwise we will be having a lockdown Christmas which will be a disaster for many retailers as well as undesirable for families.

All the measures are already there - all that needs doing is strongly enforcing them. If people, and in some cases venues, were do as asked/told/required by law then we would not be in this situation.

Any tighter restrictions and the struggling sectors of the economy will cease to exist, leaving millions jobless and with no prospect that the weaker economy can produce new jobs. We need to learn to live with this virus, without killing off too many, until a vaccine is available, so lets get back to life as normal as possible, as soon as possible.Kendhni wrote: 12 Oct 2020, 08:55A few weeks ago Johnson had the opportunity to lock us down, at the time my hindsight told me that he hadn't gone far enough and to keep bars open was stupidity. It all comes down to crass stupidity/ignorance and just not giving a toss by sections of society. Yes the Government have made mistakes, the first being to rely on the common sense of the people.! We can’t just keep blaming Boris etc.

Absolutely. It's the crass stupidity of people of people either as individuals or the managers of venues who are spreading the virus. The means of preventing its spread are basic and simple. Come down hard on a few and the rest will fall into line. Give the snowflakes something to chunter about.david63 wrote: 12 Oct 2020, 08:57All the measures are already there - all that needs doing is strongly enforcing them. When you combine selfishness, ignorance, and stupidity you end up with none compliances.
In my opinion If you want to save a struggling ecomny you have to put in place measures such as the one I suggested a couple of weeks ago, which is to have a rolling two week off, 10 weeks on working program e.g. “new normal” this way you will keep covid at a manageable level and allow business to trade relatively uninterrupted during this period.
However, I’m not sure even this would work now as the government’s incompetence has now led to each city/county fighting its own corner…more mixed messages for those who live in those areas.

Bars and nightclubs have to be shut down - restaurants acting responsibly may be able to remain open. Back in July/August, one of the MPs stood up and stated that you can either have the bars open or you can have the schools open, but you can't have both open. Bars are not a necessity.Onelife wrote: 12 Oct 2020, 12:05Agree Ken,Kendhni wrote: 12 Oct 2020, 08:55A few weeks ago Johnson had the opportunity to lock us down, at the time my hindsight told me that he hadn't gone far enough and to keep bars open was stupidity. The message should also be 'if you can work from home then you must work from home'. Many can't work from home but we can reduce the people density on the roads, public transport and in the workplaces if those that can stay away.
The news this morning is that the hospitals are already full and that the nightingale hospitals will be reopening ... and that is to handle what has already happened. So things are likely to get much worse for the next 3 weeks and then, if the government does what it has to (TODAY), hopefully it will start getting better.
No more pussy footing about and no more pandering to idiots and distressed little princesses that don't want to wear a mask. Make the fines being issued start paying for this crisis.

Ken , that's untrue only a limited number of hospitals are filling up, and I am hoping that the Nightingales will become the major covid centres, leaving the normal hospitals open for non covid admissions.
