New protocols

#1

Post by Whynd1 »

I see the new protocols for cruising have been published by P and O this morning.
It's what has been widely expected.
You will have to take an organised excursion to go ashore.

All sounds pretty much as expected - still not sure if it will be the experience that I would want

That’s not for us Lindsey.
I’ve had a good read and as David says, as expected.
I think I’ll be moving my 2021 to 2022 and see what happens.
Empty vessels .. and all that

The problem is that these protocols will be constantly evolving and we will not know from one cruise to the next what they will be and there is no option to cancel other than on "normal conditions" (at the moment)

From the sound of it it implies that you have to have a Covid test prior to embarkation but does anybody know how you go about getting one. I read somewhere (and I know not if it true or not) that a private Covid test costs around £200

Just read them - can’t see us doing 99 nights World cruise like this - but who knows - we will wait and see how things pan out

I'll be moving two of my cruises on to mid 2022 or beyond, as soon as the cruises for that period are released.

The third cruise will be in the next tranche of cancelations, or I'll just cancel and lose my small deposit

We on the other hand will certainly be sailing next July if P&O have restarted, and assuming we meet all their criteria.

Good to hear John - I like your positivity- we may well be going in August - we would probably do p and o excursions anyway on that particular cruise 🤗

My April cruise was to the Canaries, been a few times before so would not have booked any excursions just got off and wandered etc.
August cruise is Venice and Croatia so will probably book some excursions, but hoping by then that protocols regarding leaving the ship might have been relaxed a bit by then.
By the time the balance is due may have more of an idea of how things are with the virus.

Should have been in Norway this week.

P&O - Any currently marketed cruise but if I read it right you could then shift from that cruise to another one once that new one becomes available

On the question of dining protocol, they say that only family travel groups can sit together, so I have to assume that there will only be tables for two in the main.

Transfer of bookings may sound a good idea, but on investigation, I've found that moving my current booking for Azura on 13/5/21 to the equivalent cruise in Aug 2021 means a change in price from £5078 to £6432 for the same cabin!

You would expect so, but that would need a major change to the MDR with lots of 2 tops to buy and 6 and 8 tops to store.

Our late August cruise of 19 nights has almost doubled. From approx £4000 to over £8000.

I suspect, or maybe that's hope, this is because 2021 cruises are now approaching, if not in fact exceeding, the reduced capacity that might be needed if the pandemic is still a major problem, and the prices have been pushed higher to deter new bookings.

Should I assume that this extra charge will be passed on to those of you with advance deposits ?

If the pandemic is still a major problem 12 months from now, carnival may go to the wall, and this discussion will be academic

They will survive but ownership could shift to the Chinese, deposits will be honoured but the secured cruise price will not.

Is my OL tea leaf type prediction :eh:
