You could also use a bit of bread plus some sprinkled bird seed set in a mouse trap .... cruel but better than starving to death perhaps.

It probably flew in when they were doing the job

We had mice in the loft, often get them at this time of the year when the fields at the back of the house have been harvested :(
Anyway we could hear scrapping so my husband got some humane traps and a small battery powered box thing that made a sound supposed to discourage them from staying but guess what they didn't work so had to go down the old fashioned mouse trap route which did work he went into the loft a few days later and came down with the traps all with a mouse in them..... poor things but they didn't take the hint that they weren't wanted

TOP TIP ....

Check for a narrow water outlet pipe which pops out of the wall very near to the ground, crunch up a piece of an old wire made seed feeder into the entry point then Tom and horny chum Jerraldyne cannot get to the loft insulation ( nest ) via the wall cavity

Same here Happy. Unlike this year, our sea side place in normally shut up for winter. Ideal for the field mice to take up residence for winter in any bedding etc they can find to get into, nibbling enough material to make a nest and leaving us with a hole. We then have to bin the damage.
I then have to leave them some poison, as mouse traps once sprung then don't work. Such a shame as they are cute little creatures.
This year they have pushed their luck but four packets of bait seemed to have sorted them out and none have been in for a couple of weeks.
Don't worry, be happy

My thoughts too.

Yesterday it was flying backwards and forwards scaring the sh*t out of me.

That was only a Starling, what would you have done if you came face to face with one of my mice?
Someone pass him the toilet paper please.

No sign of it for two days now, so we can safely say it's either snuffed it somewhere or it's found a way out.

I leave mice to Monty. I'm not taking on a dangerous job like that :D

Could Monty not patrol the attic as well, or does he not do birds?

If it moves its dead when it's outside, what he'd do in the attic is anyone's guess. Probably get himself stuck somewhere and me ending up taking the loft to bits to rescue him :)

Then the correct response would have been ' glass of red ' ;)

Me too so allow me to suggest a decent bottle of Rioja which is, of course, presently on offer
