Poor little snowflakes that might be offended - I'm sure they have heard worse in the school playground!

Who dreams these things up fgs? Sometimes you are frightened to open your mouth for fear of somebody being offended.

Re: Snowflake Time
I remember one New Years night, probably back into the 80's tuning into RTE and they had the Pogues, the Chieftains, Kirsty McColl and (I think) the Dubliners performing live on stage belting out the music - if it wasn't for Kirsty Shane would not have been able to stand. They turned a long extended edition of Fairy Tale of New York. One of the new verses went
SM - You're a slut
KM - You're a bore
SM - You're a filthy old whore
I am guessing that would not normally have got past the censors.

...and the story would lose so much if the characters were polite and decorous.
As they say ‘ The cat sat on a mat’ is not a story whereas ‘the cat sat on the dog’s mat’ is.

Re: Snowflake Time
Wikipedia suggest that Faggots are a traditional "English" dish of south and mid Wales and the English midlands, made from minced beef and offal primarily pork. There are lots of recipes on the web for those who fancy giving them a try.
I imagine they will be much tastier, than the alternative of roasted gay men.

I like faggots. Down south we call them meat balls. Very nice with pease pudding.

Since he is a strong remainer maybe he's hoping the Pope will make him the first Cardinal of the C of E, and we could be rid of him forever.Whynd1 wrote: 21 Nov 2020, 23:00I see its being reported that the Archbishop of Canterbury is to take a break for 6 months next year at his house in France .

Re: Snowflake Time
Certainly no great fan of the Archbishop but he has had a rough time in the past. Perhaps he does need some time away. On the broader issue of mental health for clergy they do seem to be between a rock and a hard place. Falling numbers and a rapidly increasing age profile of congregations is taking its toll. There are very few training for the ministry and it is not unusual to take a year or more to appoint a new minister.
Two congregations I know have appointed US ministers and (in both cases- though not wishing to generalise) they have been fairly evangelical but also very much of the opinion that role is more akin to a job than a vocation. Visiting of housebound stopped - well, was farmed out to elders. Telephone calls were filtered via a secretary. Perhaps this is the way forward and perhaps the job is not able to be done under the old system, nevertheless there are some of the old school who are obviously feeling the strain.

Perhaps there is a shortge of choir boys or a greater risk involved in pursuit of same ... feeling the strain therefore ?
ps ... I have no time nor indeed respect for elders of the Church within certain denominations

The Archbishop would have less to worry about if he concentrated on his church duties and stopped thinking he's the leader of the opposition!
