Hi Ranchi…I wouldn’t have a clue about which direction Scottish Border Collie ears face as I’ve never had one, but it is true that some collie’s ears stand up… I don’t know if this is restricted to SBC only? We had a Merle welsh collie that had one ear up and the other half down, one blue eye (a characteristic of Merles) and one brown.

Not all but many of the Collies that I have seen with straight ears generally also have short coats.

This is only my observation but I think the SBC are bred more to type than that of the WC as they seem to be a mish mash of colours and sizes…..however, which one you consider to be closer to the breed is a matter of conjecture, probably based on which side of the border you live. :)

A mate of mine was a farmer and had sheep and one good collie. He bought another, from supposedly good working stock. Turned out it was frightened of sheep. If they ran when he chased them all was well. But if they turned back towards him he retreated behind his master!

I can see if I still have the address......

My brother had a border collie and it too was frightened of sheep. If there were sheep in the field it would wait for my brother and then run like mad once it was past them.

They can certainly run. I was taken out one morning by a farmer in Devon where we were staying. He demonstrated how the sheep were moved around with his collie. Well, I’ve never seen a dog move so fast. It was like grease lightning round the field. Amazing to watch.

Having been likened to the rear end of a horse I would say my resemblance to a collie is somewhat of an improvement  :D

I took out £200 from one's friendly ATM in February, all pristine £20 notes and most of them are still hiding in my secret drawer next to the bed

Thanks Foxy, Hi Mob.

For every good re-homed dog there will be many that come with learnt behavioural problems....that's not to say that in the right hands these problems can't be ironed out but in may cases you are dealing with the problems that bad owners have created.....l don't want that hassle.

We were one of the fortunate ones our German Shepherd crossed with a Collie was taken in by the RSPCA found being mistreated and chained up most of the day at an Asian takeaway. We adopted him at 18 months and a more loyal and sociable dog you could not have wished for. I am certain that the 15 years of walking and exercise he gave me is why I am still here today

Sounds like you found a good’n there Ray, and he repaid your kindness with love and devotion.

I can never understand a persons mentality in mistreating any animal.
