It had another of its cyber attacks apparently, no up in a new guise having lost everything. It's strange how CN gets attacked so often, someone must have a real grudge!

Molly,

I've friends who are on CN and so I see occasional posts on fb when they mention it. From what I've seen there was a problem with the site and they've had to do a 'rebuild' or something similar.

If you are on fb then perhaps you can join their page over there to keep up with info about it's return.

They've just posted this on fb:

good afternoon guys. I've had to switch CN off today. The new software just isn't stable enough for use yet. We're getting repeated attempts by spammers and attempts on the server. I'm going to reinstate the site with a stable software version now!

Never liked CN to be honest, I found it most unfriendly & some had a grudge against P&O CC & it's members...even the nice ones :-)

It's the only site that seemed to crash more often than the P&O site.
It is a shame because it has built up a good following of regulars, what put me off though was the site was dominated dominated with silly little game threads which puts me off any site (and I had to keep recreating my account). Recently though I could see some of the regular users trying to pump more interest into the site but the games threads were winning the battle.

To me it was a games site with a few cruising threads whereas what it should be is a cruising site with a few games threads.

I was thinking the same Romig .. especially after the smugness and sarcasm aimed at the P&O IT department ... maybe some people are not as astute as they thought they were. To lose a forum once is unlucky, to do so as regularly as they have means someone is not doing proper housekeeping, which is covered in the IT 101 lecture, and is disrespectful to the user base.

Ken......As someone who was was regular on that board then I have to say Crowsnest is nothing like your description. I don't reconise it at all from that....they had five games threads, six at the most and they have always been in their own area of the site...

This one has got about five games already....So I do not understand your prejudice...Fair enough if you don't like Crow's Nest but please be accurate with your criticisms.

Paul, I surf sites using new posts. EVERY time I looked into the CNN site the top 10 posts were dominated with games or joke threads (this morning the top 4 threads are game threads followed by a couple of welcome threads which is lower than usual but it is possible that since its latest crash that some of the games threads just have not been set up again .. by the way, the record that I noticed was 11 game threads in the top 11 posts, usually they would have been spread out among the top 20-25 posts). Over the last few months though I have seen a couple of posters (e.,g. Dollybird) working hard to bring some interesting topics onto the site but before its latest crash, they were being drowned by games and joke threads.

For some reason you seem to be taking that as a criticism, it isn't, it is just an observation that means the site is not for me (so lets avoid childish accusations of 'prejudice' .. in fact I believe I wished them well .. if you care to read). The regulars on the site are obviously happy with a social site that has an occasional cruising bias ... whereas what I am looking for is a cruising site with some good, and intellectual, social interest. That by the way was also the flaw with cruisecruise and some other cruise sites. It is for that very reason many sites ban all the silly unoriginal games threads because they do have a habit of taking over. I wouldn't go that far but a good moderator/administrator will not allow them to dominate the site.

If you remember the early days of the P&O site one idiot/troll started about 20 games threads in one day (and not a single original one amongst them) ... fortunately the Admin team did the right thing and deleted most of them within a few minutes. When I have admin'd on sites I would have allowed maybe half-a-dozen games threads but as soon as a 7th one started I deleted one of the others (I also made sure that posts on game/joke threads did not count towards post counts and kudos .. since that was the only reason some people played them).

Ken...Sorry you are wrong they have six game threads and you are trying to belittle Crowsnest by suggesting it is full of games and had very little cruise input...That is inaccurate...There is just as much cruise chat over there as we have on hear and they tend to stick to the subject and not go off in tangents as we do hear....I did read your post and yes you did wish them well, but I do not see why you feel the need to dismiss CN as little more than a games site....it ain't...so no childish accusations from me...don't be so defensive....if you don't like people disagreeing with you then don't be confrontational..simples.

I always go into Crowsnest via 'New Posts' as well and it ain't a problem for me to just ignore the threads you don't want to read, like games threads and just read those you want to read, sometimes I log on and then log off again because there is nothing interesting to read, much the same as most other boards I guess.

Crowsnest is dull on occasions, people over there are very nice, all the time, which is sometimes nauseating and most agree with each other but there is so much more to it than games.

Paul, I really do not know why you are being so defensive when all I have done is state my observations ... you may not agree with them but they are still how I observe the site and the opinion I have gained about the site. I have never belittled it although as you posts show some obviously are reading between the lines and taking something out of a post that is not there..

Just looked at it, the top 5 posts are games .. that is a fact (but I expect it to change over time).

I also see dollybird is yet again leading a crusade in putting interesting information on the site ... I really hope this time she succeeds .. and then that site may get the pleasure of my company :-). Other posters need to support dollybird more ... she can not make a site by herself, which, from me looking on in a totally impartial manner, is often how it appears. Don;t think of that as belittling, think of it as constructive criticism.

I agree totally and, as I have said before, I wish them well and fully expect to see the site buzzing along again in the near future.
