Life after Snuffsville

Unread post by Kendhni »

It appears google is going to allow people to decide what to happen to their data after they pop their clogs.

What would you want to happen to your videos, photographs, social media data etc?
Personally I would be happy for mine to remain in the public domain for a while but after that let it fizzle out ... anybody who may have an interest will have downloaded what they want ... life is for the living.

Last year we lost someone very special, and the facebook account is still there. It was a bit upsetting recently when I opened my email and saw the messge asking me if I knew 'X' and to look him up on facebook and become his friend. It sort of stung a bit.

So, when I go (and yes the Will is all ready) I have asked that social media etc accounts are terminated. Videos and photos etc are stored both electronically and in hard copy so if people wish to keep them fine - if not they can go.

What is important to me is that those I leave behind must gather up what I leave in my Will and jolly well head for their future confidently and secure in the knowledge that I really don't need them to make a shrine to me. The past is the past - they must head steadfastly onwards.

Em :)

Em, exactly my sentiments. Couldn't have put it better. Life is definitely for the living but showing respect for those not with us any more.

Would this apply to general forums. After my son died I got a lot of comfort from posted messages and although it hurt for a short while I would re read these messages. It helped me to come to terms with it , but that might not be the case for other people.

Much the same as personal diaries

I have kept a diary for a long time, invaluable for me, but of no interest to anyone else

If possible I would like them to be cremated and scattered with my ashes on Dorset's Cerne Abbas hillside

But not just yet of course

Hi Andrea,

Its different for everyone. There is no right or wrong answer. I read through most stuff once and parted with it.

I trust that when I go that those left behind will do the same with my scribblings and photos. There'll be enough 'other stuff' to keep people busy for a while - they won't need my rubbish!

Em, Memories are in the mind, they never go away. Diaries, letters, photographs etc are pieces of paper which will fade, those memories won't. It just helped me at the time but it wasn't a site like Facebook , the people on there were all going through a serious illness and in a way they were all keeping each other going.

Dear Em

You are have a wee entry in my 2012 diary

""Missed Em's pop into the Tiv Box Office yet again

Love to meet her""

How quaint is that ?

Hi Graham -

Aaaaw that's lovely! I'll send you a PM with the date of the next one. Doesn't matter if you are busy - we'll just drop in to the Box Office as usual.

Em :D

All sorted.

Details of any forum are logged in a place that our offspring know; something akin to a little black book.

They will be more than happy to tell some where to go, on my demise, and then they can be banned, account closed, and I will have a party, if there is such a facility, on the other side. ;)

When I'm gone, Captainesse Black will invite friends & family to the send off and that will be that. I will simply fade away from any fora that I may be a member at that time.

Interesting thought - I am of the belief that life goes on - my parents never wanted to be buried or have any sort of memorial/gravestone as their thought was no-one bothers to maintain them after a while and they become a chore. However, I guess with social forums more prominent now - it may be a good idea to let the family know your wishes.
