Are we becoming a bit obsessive about data.
At the end of the day what will be will be. We all know what tier we are in and what we have to do to keep safe. The government will do what they feel is required for the country, be it what we agree with or not.
Data is what helps me understand what is going on.

I kept track of the infection rates all through the summer, when the rates were really low. It gave me confidence to know that I could go out as the risk was relatively low. When I saw that infections were increasing in October, we still went out, but only very locally. When infections here boomed in mid November, we just stopped going out.

The data helped me make informed decisions and I'd rather know the background to government actions.

I would have thought Gill all you need to know is the tier system you and others are in as to what you can and can’t do and where you can go.

But if your happy looking at statistics then fine.

My original message point was, it seemed to becoming a bit statistic obsessive on this forum NOT what was being presented outside of the forum. But if that what makes members happy so be it. It was just my personal point of view.

A good move i think. But there will be plenty moaning that it's over reaction and an equal number moaning it's too little too late. I expect Sir Hindsight is tossing a coin to decide which.

I will be interested to see how it’s enforced by the Police. From what I’ve seen of large gatherings in Kent and London the police are nowhere to be seen.

I thought Boris showed ‘for the first time’ a hint of Prime ministerial qualities even with his ” late delivery” implementing these new measures.

I would have liked to have seen him go a little further re compulsory use of facemask. I also believe that if this new strain is more prevalent in this country then I think we should be seen as a special case with regard to the availability/distribution of the Pfizer vaccine. I think it would be irresponsible of the WHO not to try and put a cap on the spread before it spreads to other countries.

That rather assumes it hasn't come from other countries. I don't think we know enough about it yet. But it is typical virus behaviour. They often mutate to more easily spread but less lethal forms.

Act now, confirm later would seen the sensible approach.

The right thing has been done and I’m pleased that they are implementing it immediately. Just hope it’s enough to slow down infections.

At least there is now an explanation for the boom in infections that I observed

This, from the BBC website, shows what a complete waste of space Sir Hindsight is. Earlier in the week he wanted rules tightened. Now they are he criticises.

I do believe Laura Kuenssberg is getting a bit soft as she stuck up for Boris and the difficult decisions he has had to make, as she reported on to- nights latest developments.
How hard is it to follow advice, hands, face, space.
The government advise ways of keeping safe. If the few that don't follow the rules continue their selfish ways then it will continue to increase, it looks like we are going to be at the mercy of the vaccine.
Don't worry, be happy

Just heard on the news this morning that the brain-dead have been finding ways around the new Christmas restrictions with some travelling home last night and on top of that there is a report that in a survey 11% said that they are going to ignore the restrictions anyway. So lets travel all over the country and spread the virus quicker to more.

Bring on the police state and shoot on sight anyone breaking the rules I say.

In 1655 the people of Eyam isolated themselves from the rest of the world to prevent the plague spreading.
In 2020 the people in the South East knowing there was a pandemic which had a high degree of transmission herded onto trains like rats off a sinking ship to spread the virus further afield and a further 11% said they will ignore the law anyway. News footage from last night was sickening.
What a selfish society we have become. :(

It was half full until I learned that there was to be a review in two weeks or on 30th December
Given the shameful behaviour in London yesterday it's well on the way to
empty (hic)

By then most of the country will be in tier four anyway - just hope that Boris gives a bit more warning so that everyone can move around the country to celebrate New Year :moresarcasm:

I don’t think you need your flak jacket, I think most people here would prefer firm action and the rules to be strictly enforced.

Did you see my answer to your question yesterday? I tried to answer as fully as possible, so would be interested to know what you thought
Your post on the 17th was basically I don't know and nor does anyone else.

This illustrates the difficulty of the situation. If science cannot point out the reason it's impossible for the politicians or any one else to know what to do. ( I except Sir Keir as he always knows what to do after the event)

Now two or three days on science seems to have concluded that the new strain is the cause and the Government has acted more swiftly
with a more draconian policy than I expected but less than I would have preferred.

Joyce and I will stay locked up tight with Christmas on our own away from family which was exactly as we planned weeks ago.

Your infection rates are four times what we are here (about 200 and flat) and I expect to remain in level 3 for a long time yet.

No doubt the hoards "escaping" London last night will ensure that the new strain will arrive here soon.
