A thought provoking video half way down the news piece.

How the deniers and conspiracy theorists can justify their ignorance is beyond me.Stephen wrote: 11 Jan 2021, 07:59A thought provoking video half way down the news piece.

It is similar to the stories from New York where the morgues and funeral homes became overloaded so the authorities took over a lorry park and moved hundreds of bodies to dozens of refrigerated lorries parked there. They also created mass graves to temporarily bury bodies in local parks.

Just looking at the photos of how many were out and about yesterday shows how many still don’t believe it.

....or are too selfish to care.
The police need to have more of a presence and come down hard on the flouters, and if it’s a case of numbers then bring in the army for support. I’m afraid a £200 fine just doesn’t cut it for most people. Make it a £500 fine for a first offence then a £1000 if caught again. And as it’s now law that you should abide by the rules, add a criminal record as well.

Chris Whitty was on BBC this morning explaining the need for isolation. IMHO he and Jonathan van Tam are the people to listen to. I cant understand people calling him Professor Doom, these doctors are seeing what is happening at the coal face, and Jonathan van Tam specialises in Influenza and in epidemiology. I think that there are people who have seen the reports that many are asymptomatic, or only have it mildly, and think that there will be no repercussions for them, so why bother isolating. The word selfish springs to mind when I see the scenes of crowds not distancing, or wearing masks.
Our neighbour caught Covid, and was really ill but stayed at home but now her husband has it and is in hospital on oxygen. Neither of them are are over 55.
No sign of vaccinations in our area of Poole/Bournemouth, but my brother in Dunstable was contacted in November about the vaccine and had his jab at his local surgery early last week.
I shall be down there 'faster than a speeding bullet' if they offer it to me.

Re: Who Has Been Vaccinated?
I think you are right Frank that we have too many people not prepared to follow the guidance. I popped out to the post box this afternoon and the traffic on our main road was not much different to pre pandemic times, whereas back in the first lockdown it was very quiet. But does that fully account for our current far higher infections, death rate and much higher infection rates.

On the internet I see a lot of jeering and sarcasm towards 'experts' - however I have found that 100% of the time the 'experts' know a lot more about it than random posters on social media. If even for the only reason that they have a lot more data.Frank Manning wrote: 11 Jan 2021, 16:10Chris Whitty was on BBC this morning explaining the need for isolation. I see Morrisons is now banning anyone without a mask ... that is long over due and I not only 100% back their decision but also hope every other business premises follows suit. The time for people to be delicate/precious/prissy little snowflakes has long gone. The word selfish springs to mind when I see the scenes of crowds not distancing, or wearing masks.
Only this weekend I saw an old work colleague out on his mobility scooter with his oxygen cylinders and cannula. I have known him for years and he can barely walk 10 paces without gasping for breath ... he had his mask on as well. If he can wear one then there is no excuse for anyone else.

Are the rules for this lockdown as strict as they were for the first lockdown last spring ? I don't think so and that could be the problem. They have to tighten up on the rules and also make it really simple for people to understand them. This ain't going to be over any time soon.
I don't mind admitting I'm very nervous and I don't want to go out. I haven't left my flat for over a week.

It matters nothing how tight the rules are if people are going to ignore them.
How much more simple do you want than - "do not go out"?

I think that the rules are fine.
It’s people looking for a way around them that’s the problem.

David...."Do not go out " is not the rule. That is what it should be, but it ain't. The rules are confusing some people. Call them stupid, riff raff or whatever, the government has been giving out mixed messages since day one. It's hard to keep up with what you can do and what you can't.

If you tighten the rules and police them properly then people won't ignore them. They will soon start following the rules when fines start dropping through their letter box.
Some ignore the rules because they can. There are no consequences if they don't and that must change or this will never go away.

The main difference seems to be the qualification to rank as a key worker, and enable your child to go to school, which are now about 40% full in some places.Bensham33 wrote: 11 Jan 2021, 18:11Are the rules for this lockdown as strict as they were for the first lockdown last spring ? Apart from that the others are minor, and if the majority followed the rules it would reduce the infection rate massively.

What bit of stay home does not mean do not go out, except for essential shopping and brief exercise.Bensham33 wrote: 11 Jan 2021, 18:54David...."Do not go out " is not the rule. A woman who lives across the road from us has had visitors today from two different households in her house at the same time for over two hours. I can't bear to look at her incase I cause a scene. She hasn't obeyed the rules at anytime. We've seen it constantly, she isn't the only one doing this it gets us so very angrybarney wrote: 11 Jan 2021, 18:51I think that the rules are fine.

One of our neighbours is a bit like that, bends the rules.

No there's not a "hot" line, in fact during earlier lock downs and higher tiers the police here said "not to clipe on neighbours" ......what chance have you got with that attitude

We seem to be behind here in Wales with the vaccine, my dad is 93 lives on his own and has carers 4 times a day and the district nurse.
He has not yet been invited for an appointment.

I was reading at the weekend that Wales had 270,000 doses of the vaccine and only managed to use less than 40,000!Whynd1 wrote: 12 Jan 2021, 11:43We seem to be behind here in Wales with the vaccine, my dad is 93 lives on his own and has carers 4 times a day and the district nurse.

Wales does not appear to be handling the pandemic very well at all and it is about time that their was a national policy and not left to the devolved governments to make up their own plans. The Welsh Government seem, to me, to be totally out of their depth with all of this.

Mrs S gets her second dose on Sunday, so at least she won't be bringing it home to me, once it kicks in............hopefully.
