I was very lucky and had my first vaccination yesterday. Our surgery has started vaccinating the over 70s and I had a call to see if I could attend within two hours - absolutely I could so all very quickly done, incredibly efficient and some of the volunteers doing the paperwork were members of John's Rotary Club so that was lovely to see. After effects - well a bit of a sore arm but nothing to complain about, even if I had a very sore arm I wouldn't be complaining. I was given a card saying I'd had the vaccine and was told I would be contacted in 12 weeks to receive the second jab.

We have ours tomorrow morning. We don't know what to believe, the tabloids are full of half truths and scare stories about the effectiveness of the vaccines. However we also have a date and time for the next dose, all organised through our surgery. Full marks to them and to the NHS.

Now you know full well Frank that if they said everything was wonderful with the vaccine that would not be news and sell papers.

There is a valid point though that nobody yet knows how effective the vaccine will be at getting the pandemic under control.

I drove my husband and this morning to have his covid vaccine.
Very well organised at the Swansea Bay field hospital.

Here in Wales they have split the over 70s group Into 75 and over for the jab. So he fell into that group.
He was given the Pfizer jab and a card with all the details on . Would be useful for holiday purposes to prove that you have had the vaccine.
No follow up appointment given so am assuming he will ne written to nearer the time again.
Nobody asked him for the IDthat it requested you take.

It's such a relief, still nothing for my dad at 93 apparently in Swansea over 80s are being done at GP surgeries.
I had a very lengthy detailed reply from my mp regarding my concerns about the handling of the vaccine roll out by the Welsh assembly

Yes they find it easier to make stuff up instead of doing real journalism. Even The Times is getting like it, and while I subscribe to it and the Guardian on line, I'm sorry to say that even the latter is full of wishful thinking. My view of the vaccine, is that they would not be spending all this money on a mass roll out, if they didn't think that it was going to stimulate a reasonable immune response.

Not really as the card does not have your name on it so you could pass it on, as some will do to their mates who have not had the jab. I would like to think that airlines/cruise lines/etc would have access to the central database, as they do with passports, to verify who has/has not had a vaccination.

Without knowing more information that report is a load of media rubbish and possible misinformation.

Those figures need to be put into context. If they were to use percentages then the figures would be more meaningful and without knowing the number of people in each cohort for the different areas again the numbers are meaningless.

Obviously if you have an area with, say, 200,000 population you will vaccinate more that an area with, say, 50,000 but if the smaller area has vaccinated 10,000 (20%) they have done better than the larger area who have vaccinated 25,000 (12.5%).

Realistically nothing is going to change until a large percentage have been vaccinated across the country. They're not going to take Village A out of lockdown because its 100 pensioners have been vaccinated if the 100,000 in City B haven't.

We are very rural and think it correct that we have to wait a little longer ... consider setting up a venue and a number of jabbers plus an army of little helpers. In a large town there could be 10,000 needing a jab but in a village a couple of hundred or so. We can stay put and be locally jabbed in a Tier 2 ( should be 1 ) zone else travel for umpteen miles into a Tier 4 area for one's jabs. I'm very happy to wait .... :relaxed:

Pauline and I had our first AZ jab this afternoon at Boots Halifax, well run and fairly fast 30 mins in total including 15 mins wait afterwards because I was driving.
So far no allergic reaction although the arm does ache a little, or maybe that just me being a softie.

As long as it's not your drinking arm there is nothing to worry about!

They did ask which shoulder, are you left handed or right, so don't have it in the drinking arm.

We had the Oxford vaccine last Saturday morning, with no effects at all. Excellent service at our surgery. This lockdown is boring. When a trip to the doctor for a vaccination is the highlight of the week, you know things are getting bad.

It was discussed, of course it was, but I felt that it was a step too far to expect them to drive a 44 ton refrigerated Vaccination Unit type vehicle through our single track lanes but so kind of them to offer and even to provide the service on my birthday if I requested it.

Going to Tier 4 Dorchester ... it's the most dangerous thing we've done this past year :relaxed:

So the EU are throwing their toys out of their pram - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55805903

I have said this before, and I will say it again, there is no place for politics where Covid-19 vaccine is concerned.
