He's a family man and I hope it's the case that they are there to support him rather than to watch him die ...

I think that it was almost inevitable when someone of that age has had pneumonia for a few weeks and then tests positive for Covid.

Certainly a man "of the moment", and by all accounts a character.

R.I.P. - you have been an inspiration to a nation.

That's a lovely picture.
He was always so cheerful and polite. Never got fed up with all the endless attention.
He will be sadly missed.

He will be fondly remembered for many years as the face of this pandemic, his achievements in the last 10 months of his life far outweighed what most others manage in their entire lifetime. RIP Capt Sir Tom.
