Just been "done" - microchip firmly embedded ;)
It's the second jab when they program it. When you enter they tell you that they are just checking your temperature, don't you believe it. 😵

I got the blue enveloped delivered today with an appointment for myself on the 9th February :) it makes no sense though as my husband's is the 14th February and he's older than me

Never mind I'm just glad we'll both get it soon.

There was an interesting comment on BBC News today from a virologost, Dr Tang, he believes that transmission of the virus from vaccinated people may very well be overstated. Although virus RNA can be found in such people, he assumes that quite a lot of this might in fact already have been neutralised by our antibodies, but would still be identified by our current tests, these however would not present any danger when shed.
This is very much the view that I have always held about vaccination, although as a layman I had no idea of the science.

You have described one piece of a much bigger jigsaw puzzle. I explained this many posts ago.

Prof Paul Hunter and his team at the U E A have been studying the Pfizer vaccine and reports that the first eight days after receiving first dose there was a rise in covid cases. This may be put down to people being less cautious as no protection is offered in the first eight days.
They found very little protection in the first 14 days after receiving first jab, but after that protection rose day on day until day 21 when it reaches 90% immunity but did not go any higher. This level of protection is expected to last the 12 weeks to the second jab.

As far as I am aware It was always three weeks after the first jab before protection kicked in. But some people just don't take on board simple information and think ahead.

Agree Stephen, it's not long to wait for that bit of protection, but some don't follow lock down rules so having the jab does not set you free immediately.

I would suspect that it was lack of understanding rather than any intention to be difficult ... maybe ?

.....or more probably just thick as sh*t or don't want to know. I would have thought when you are vaccinated you are told about when the vaccination will take affect and to carry on with normal precautions. Not yet having had the jab I cannot confirm this, but I'm sure you Moby or someone else who has can confirm this.

We have our jabs tomorrow, but whatever we are told or not will continue to observe lockdown rules and precautions exactly as before, in fact until the majority of adults have been vaccinated and the number of daily cases is in hundred or tens rather than thousands and deaths in single figures.

As an aside an example of the negative style of reporting, it was said today that 10% of hospitals are at max ITU capacity. Which means 90% have space.

In other words "carry out last instruction given"!

You might have a long wait for that as we have an average of around 50 deaths a day from flu

A few weeks after the second jab you will be fine to return to as normal a life as we are likely to get in the foreseeable future (irrespective of the death toll). However I have read several reports that social distancing and mask wearing may become part of normal life at certain times of the year. I think it is actually something that the government should consider seriously ... it appears the instances of normal winter bugs is down.

Sadly some of those beds are only free because the previous occupant did not make it. More important would be the number of free beds (that 90% could relate to 1 bed or 10 beds).

Going into a Hospital or having a jab can be very confusing, as you would know, insomuch that only 30% of the information given at any one time may be retained. Perhaps less given the age of those in receipt of the jab. For this reason I daresay our jabbers asked many questions but simply said I would be contacted for the second jab in about 12 weeks. I was however handed some blurb to read at my leisure ... some would read it but others would not.

On the BBC news at one they said that calls to the government for the ending of the lockdown have been made, even by some Tory MPs.
Did the P M not say at the last briefing, that the road map out of the lock down will be made in the middle of February.
Or was I wrong.

Agreed. But it is nonetheless not unusual for hospitals to be at or close to ITU capacity in the winter. The biggest cost of an ITU bed is not the price of the bed it is the salary of the 6 highly qualified staff needed to provide one-to-one care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Those staff have to be paid whether the bed is occupied or not, so hospitals maintain the number of beds they will need most of the time. They cannot afford to operate with a lot of headroom.

I don't take away from the heartache or tragedy that occupation of an ITU bed represents, I was merely pointing out there are two ways of telling the story.

It's always the same. If we're not in lockdown the critics attack the government for not acting. The moment we're in they start demanding we come out.

Personally I've never found going into hospital confusing or not knowing why I am attending.

I would like to think those with some intelligence would know why they were attending for the jab or were otherwise being escorted. Those of an age that may not retain much information through either age or disability are hardly going to be the ones thinking life is once again normal after having had the vaccine and go out partying.
