I think it's deplorable some of the comments being made about our medical scientists and experts. I cannot understand how they can remain so patient in the face of stupid questions from the media. Just as well we can't tell what they must be thinking.

I think that’s wishful thinking John, even with an unrestricted supply of vaccines.towny44 wrote: 03 Feb 2021, 10:10None of the media outlets seem to listen to what the experts say, Vallance, Whitty, Van Tam and the others all say that the vaccine efficacy is an average across all recipients, just about everyone will receive some protection, and it should significantly reduce hospitalisations and minimise deaths.
As regards the vaccination roll out, I fully expect the govt to achieve their target of all the over 50s by the end of March.
Many will be needing their second jab over the next few weeks which will no doubt put further strain on the rollout program.
Here in Shropshire, we are still doing our over eighties…but then we are three weeks behind on the rest of the country.

Re: Current Affairs
The early roll out was quite slow Keefy, we had ours on 25th Jan and don't have our 2nd until 14th April, before then the total vaccinated were less than 3m. So with 3m plus jabs per week now achievable then the over 50s group of 18m, plus way less than 3m needing their 2nd jab then 21m only requires 7 weeks which could be achieved quite easily by the end of March.Onelife wrote: 05 Feb 2021, 14:32I think that’s wishful thinking John, even with an unrestricted supply of vaccines.towny44 wrote: 03 Feb 2021, 10:10None of the media outlets seem to listen to what the experts say, Vallance, Whitty, Van Tam and the others all say that the vaccine efficacy is an average across all recipients, just about everyone will receive some protection, and it should significantly reduce hospitalisations and minimise deaths.

Could be that they accept that not everyone is as clever as they are and that they would rather say the same thing over and over again rather than people not understanding them and they do the wrong thing.oldbluefox wrote: 05 Feb 2021, 14:21I think it's deplorable some of the comments being made about our medical scientists and experts. I hope you're right John because whilst it great having a wife 8 years younger than oneself, it does have its draw backs. My release date will need to fall in line with hers in order that she isn't put at any unnecessary risk.towny44 wrote: 05 Feb 2021, 15:25The early roll out was quite slow Keefy, we had ours on 25th Jan and don't have our 2nd until 14th April, before then the total vaccinated were less than 3m. I did suggest that she could self isolate in the garden shed for a few weeks but she declined, sighting...'she wouldn't be in a position to do the household chores for me'.
P.s the government have just announced that all 50 year olds (group 7) should get there vaccine by May.

It makes no difference - we all carry on as if we have not had the vaccine until we are told otherwise - simplesOnelife wrote: 05 Feb 2021, 16:54My release date will need to fall in line with hers in order that she isn't put at any unnecessary risk.

towny44 wrote: 05 Feb 2021, 15:25Yes Hancock has just said they are on target for that, he did not say whether it was beginning or end of May. However he must be anticipating a reduction in the supply of vaccines, otherwise they could very easily complete them by mid April, if they continued at the current vaccination rate.Onelife wrote: 05 Feb 2021, 14:32

I'm probably alone on this one but I think the BBC have reached a new low in broadcasting. The Handforth council meeting footage should not have made it onto national television imo.
It was bad judgment by the person who released this footage online and even worse judgment by the BBC in facilitating the humiliation and redicule that those concerned have had to endure.

News watchers on TV are a declining breed, but you can bet far more viewers have seen it on You Tube, or whatever.

For some of those involved this exposure could be detrimental to their careers and personal lives. Its just as well that theses zoom meetings are a consequence of covid and not the norm.

Bear in mind this meeting wasn't leaked. It was publicly available. the Councillors concerned behaved disgracefully. From the report I heard such poor behaviour has been a long standing symptom of in-fighting in the council and goes way back before Zoom meetings.
