Re: Current Affairs
I'm amazed anyone has any sympathy for, or is in any way defending, this bunch. The whole country is suffering from the effects of Covid. Some have lost jobs. Some are missing out on part of their education. Some are suffering acute loneliness. Some have severe mental health issues. Some are financially damaged. Some are in pain because operations have been cancelled. Some are dying. The only way it stops is if we all obey the rules.
This selfish bunch are old enough to vote. They're old enough to get married and have kids of their own. They are old enough to serve their country in the armed forces.
The are old enough to know the rules. They are old enough to understand the risks. They are old enough to know the penalties. They are old enough to pay the price. If they end up ridiculed or vilified on social media it is their own fault.

Merv, you say They are old enough to know the rules. They are old enough to understand the risks. They are old enough to know the penalties. They are old enough to pay the price. If they end up ridiculed or vilified on social media it is their own fault.
We have had to put up with thier parties, demo marches all through the crisis.
They have never had to follow strict rules with punishment if you break them, never really been subjected to strict discipline as from being in nappys we are told they are young adults and have been protected by all the do-gooders that fend of anything that may upset them. Example is running a race with no last place, no one on a losing side.
As in all society there are many who have followed the rules and been painted with the same brush as those that haven't.

Just remember that the young uns are the guys that get to pick your care home.
Based on some of the comments I think some posters will have to look forward to spending their final days in Shady Pines Portacabin being attended by a 6'4" 21stone ex shot-putter, German nurse, called Helga, who believes that the resolution to all ailments is a wire brush and dettol.

She'd probably be preferable to one of those who think only of themselves above all others and are not too fussy about spreading any germs or diseases they might contract along the way...................if they manage to live that long.Kendhni wrote: 08 Feb 2021, 16:48Just remember that the young uns are the guys that get to pick your care home.

My ire is directed at any who flagrantly flout the rules no matter how young or how old, no lame excuses. If you flout them and get caught you take the consequences.
We currently have a mountain rescue team member in hospital with life changing injuries having fallen 150 feet in rescuing a couple who had travelled up to Cumbria, camped out on the mountain and one had contracted chest pains. Somehow £200 is not enough.

It is quite likely that the transgressors also hold similar views.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Feb 2021, 09:37Our two generations of young 'uns, you may be surprised to discover, share our views and will deffo put our welfare above their own ... they believe we have earned the right to live out our remaining days in comfort.Kendhni wrote: 08 Feb 2021, 16:48Just remember that the young uns are the guys that get to pick your care home.

In the words of G B Shaw. “ Youth is a wonderful thing, what pity it’s wasted on the young.” Or something like that.

For all the party goers and non believers out there, have a look at this and get a reality check.
I don’t mind admitting, It had me filling up.

I think some need to think of those so deeply affected around the country. Truth is we are all bored and need some fun but just grateful we are not in others' shoes.

I wonder about all the angst and stamping of feet about the idea of a jail term of up to 10 years for breaching quarantine rules on arriving in this country. It's simple. If you don't want to go to jail don't break the rules.
And as for the bleeding heart on tv last night. "!0 days in a quarantine hotel when you get back ..... that's not a nice end to a holiday. Hardly worth going". Precisely. That is the whole idea. Don't bleep bleep go!

Re: Current Affairs
If, at the time of your return, Madeira is on the "red list" then you go into quarantine for 10 days, go directly to quarantine, do not pass go (or anything else) but you may need to collect £1,750Manoverboard wrote: 10 Feb 2021, 13:37How does it work on the return if one has an apartment / time share etc in, say, Madeira ?

Something like 21,000 people enter the UK every day, several thousand involved in the medical and other authorized travel.
My question is who are all the rest of them traveling during a crises. Where have they been, what have they been doing to to then decide to enter the UK.

Definitely a bit different to New Zealand who have about 3 sheep farmers and a couple of All Black front row forwards arriving daily.Ray B wrote: 10 Feb 2021, 14:11Something like 21,000 people enter the UK every day, several thousand involved in the medical and other authorized travel.

Does it have to be in a Hotel or could one simply drive home and stop there for 10 days like Merv would want to do or is it a case of being supervised during the quarantine period ?david63 wrote: 10 Feb 2021, 14:06If, at the time of your return, Madeira is on the "red list" then you go into quarantine for 10 days, go directly to quarantine, do not pass go (or anything else) but you may need to collect £1,750Manoverboard wrote: 10 Feb 2021, 13:37How does it work on the return if one has an apartment / time share etc in, say, Madeira ?

We have no plans to go to our alleged timeshare in Madeira all the time it is on the red list. Or indeed anywhere else abroad. Just saying.....Manoverboard wrote: 10 Feb 2021, 13:37How does it work on the return if one has an apartment / time share etc in, say, Madeira ?

Grant Shapps had told us not to book holidays this year at home or abroad. So none of us are going nowhere for the foreseeable.
Grant Shapps has upset the entire travel industry. What a 'Rodney'.
