Covid Passports

Unread post by david63 »

I see that the snowflakes are objecting to Covid passports - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-56202975

I suspect that Covid passports will, sooner rather than later, be inevitable.

There are two aspects to this:

1. Other countries will require proof of vaccination to allow entry, so that will be nothing that the UK Government will impose. The option being that you go for your two week holiday in the sun to, say Spain, and without a vaccine either get turned back or spend 10 days in quarantine on arrival - and possibly another 10 days upon returning.

There is nothing different about having a Covid passport to enter a country than there currently is with having to have a visa or, for some countries, a Yellow Fever certificate.

Also I would hazard a guess that a Covid passport will be required to enter the UK from certain countries who have a high Covid infection rate.

2. The more contentious issue is with having proof of a vaccination in order to enter some venues. I doubt that this will become law in the UK but there is nothing to stop the venues themselves imposing that requirement.

There is the issue around the few (in relation to the population) that cannot have the Covid jab for medical reasons but I suspect that some of them would probably not be able to travel abroad and some others would not want to risk it at the moment.

It's time for the snowflakes to grow up and join the real world - even the Queen had a go at them yesterday - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56203768

I agree on all points. If vaccine passports come to be it will be the venues choice, but I will certainly favour those that require them with my custom as I will feel safer. As I will favour cruise lines that require them.

I heard claims yesterday that vaccine passports will discriminate against poorer people. Why? The jabs are free of charge and I assume the passports will be too if they come to pass.

We are required to hold a driving licence, which costs quite a lot to acquire taking into account lessons and test. This reduces the risk of us dying at the hands of an untrained driver. I see the vaccine passport as similarly reducing the risk of me dying.

As far as people who cannot have the jab are concerned (as opposed to those who will not) I presume any scheme will include some sort of certificated exemption.

As David comments, there are probably very few who cannot have the vaccine for health reasons and many of these will likely be too ill to do much travel or clubbing, so the only discrimination will be against ant vaxxers, now aint6 that a shame.

I was, for once, pleased to hear Jeremy Vine take a sensible position yesterday instead of siding with the bleaters. He was interviewing one of the liberal lefties who claim to look after my interests by opposing vax passports. When they tried to lump people who "cannot or will not" have the vaccine together he was quick to make the point that these are two entirely different things. The campaigners try to gain sympathy for the people who choose to refuse a vaccine by trying to confuse them with those who cannot for health reasons.

It's their choice. If I choose not to buy a ticket for Glastonbury Festival or the Cup Final can I then claim they are discriminating against me if they won't let me in?

Looking at what is happening elsewhere in the world, I am surprised that there isn't something official proving you have had your vaccinations. They had talked about QR codes and stuff like that - but that would be too easy for fraud.

I would go the whole hog and have ID cards. Imagine how useful they would be wherever you are that in the case of accident they can know who you are, here you live, blood group etc etc. And of course there would be no problem for the police in establishing who you are,
Highly likely there are plenty of libertarians who would disagree but having carried an ID card for many years I didn't see any problem, unless you have something to hide.

If it got me on a cruise ship I would happily take the microchip, it would also help the emergency services to find me, when I wander off in my dotage.

I once had a prisoner on my wing who self tattooed his girlfriends name on his forehead. He did it in the mirror, you guessed it...instead of Tina it read aniT. He came back in a few years later with a scrubby forehead scar, when I asked him how she was, he said she’d dumped him, can’t understand why.
