Once I get out of shielding and we come out of lockdown we are planning a few weeks staycation. Already we have Rosedale Abbey, The Trossachs and Anglesey booked (organised pre Covid) and I will be looking to book others, Covid permitting.
I just hope and pray that the selfish ones don't go and ruin it all.
You'll be lucky Foxy. Everything is being snapped up.
We are looking for five nights hotel away to somewhere decent in July (40th Wed Anniversary).....no chance.

I agree it must be a lot different living alone. We've had each other for company which has kept us going. Though we still long for the freedom to pop out for a coffee or a hug with our family. A holiday would be good too!
Hopefully a holiday in the U.K. Merv.
I think that anyone taking a holiday abroad this summer should be treated as a smoker in a hospital or a drink driver.
We’ve collectively worked so hard and sacrificed so much to get infection rates down that it beggars belief that some would potentially risk that for a week or two in the sun.
International travel was the original driver and it could potentially be the next.
Not the driver. That was the behaviour of our indigenous population. It may have been the original source but even that is not certain. It could have originated anywhere. There is eveidence that it was around before the Chinese reported it.

We cannot stay hiding behind our curtains for ever.
Happy to be corrected but my recollection is that a British guy went to China, contracted the virus, stopped off in the Italian Alps for a bit of skiing, infected the resort then continued on to the U.K. and infected people here.
If that’s not international travel then I don’t know what is.
Then we had tens of thousands coming in and out of Heathrow while we, as citizens, were in lockdown.
If that’s not international travel, I don’t know what is.
So, I’d happily stand by my statement of international travel being the driver.

Had the U.K. immediately ceased international travel (New Zealand) then the consequence would have been much less, in my opinion of course.
You are entitled to differ.

Didn't we also have a Chinese visitor who was staying in a hotel in York, seemingly the first known case in the UK?

I'm with you Barney on pretty much every point. Our first planned overseas holiday is November, which will get postponed unless things are a lot better in Europe than now. Otherwise it's UK all the way. Better to hide behind our curtains a little longer than behind a shroud for ever.

Hopefully things will be much better by Nov, I am still hopeful for September (although I think that may be more wishful thinking).
As I said elsewhere that when the government/scientific guidance allows it then I am out of here and looking forward to resuming holidays.
Got to remain positive.

I have, and we’ve been a few times before. We would only go again if there was some good entertainment, but none for the dates we want, or to our taste.

I hope you're right. It's to our timeshare in Madeira so we can bank the weeks if needed but we're starting to build up a backlog. May have to move there for most of 2023! They were brilliant at the start of the pandemic and kept case very low, but it has caught up with them now and they are suffering the EU vaccine cock up. They hope to get everyone jabbed by "the end of the year".

That's not good Merv, but in may be the same case with most EU Countries this year.
It's in the coming months as we move to winter they (the scientists) will get a more clearer picture of how long the vaccine gives protection to us.
Don't worry, be happy

And don’t forget all those ‘ trapped ‘ abroad ie, on gap years etc who had to be brought back on emergency flights.

Was there not talk of an Autumn roll out of a second round of vaccines to cover us for next winter? It may actually have to be a 6 monthly event.

Hopefully the second phase of vaccines will be more effective and long lasting.
