Just in Case You Missed Me ...

Unread post by david63 »

... I'm back.

Last week I unexpectedly received an offer for a free five night all inclusive break in one of our wonderful NHS hotels which I was unable to turn down.

To cut a long story short, and remove all the gory bits (of which there were quite a few) it turned out that I had a twisted bowel and I can assure you that it is not something you will want to experience - it is ******* painful.

If anyone needs convincing to have a Covid jab then spend some time in hospital and listen to what has/is going on:
  • Jung girls in their twenties who have had Covid and are back working on the front line
  • Staff who have spent several months working on Covid wards
  • Porters who have been run into the ground with the number of patients that have needed to be constantly moved around
  • Staff working 14.5 shifts due to others looking after Covid patients
The list goes on and all the time the rest of the staff carry on with business as usual - looking after poorly patients - not only that but doing it with a smile on their face.

As for PPE - I have never seen so much used in my life. Every time a member of staff visits a patient it is new gloves and apron and sometimes a face visor. I would not want to try and even guess how much is used on one ward of one hospital in one day let alone the whole of the NHS.

The one thing that did amaze me was the amount of technology that is in use in hospital these days all to the benefit of the patients with information flying around the hospital instantly updating records.

Good to see you back. My all inclusive 18 night package last year was equally impressive. And the drugs on offer! Better than an 18-30 holiday in Magaluf.

I also saw my dentist recently for a check up. WelI I say saw. It could have been almost anybody. Suited up ready for a spacewalk!

Good to hear your on the men David. You must cut your fillet steaks into smaller pieces. ;)

Technology in hospitals is marvellous, but god is it noisy. Beep beep beep continuously. Forget about trying to sleep. But then on the other hand it's better than the other option!

I did similar about 25-30 years ago and can confirm it was F****g sore.
Take your time to get over it. I was younger and stupider and didn't give it enough time and nearly put myself back in hospital.

Tell your "friend" that they stick a camera in a place where the sun don't shine

Nothing wrong with the NHS's sedation.

I can recommend it.
I once went for a procedure and was asked if I wanted a sedative. Not wanting to sound a wimp I said I thought I would be alright to which the nurse replied "Doctor prefers if you do." Well a nod's as good as a wink to a blind horse and thank goodness I did because it wasn't the most pleasant of procedures, even with the sedative.
My friend from down south had the same procedure without a sedative and he said it was awful. Only afterwards did they say how surprised they were that he didn't go for the sedative but he told them, nobody offered him one. (Ex Army so they obviously thought he was a ruffty-tuffty hero unlike me!!! )

Among everything else I fitted in a quick colonoscopy last year. I don't remember being asked about a sedative but they removed a couple of polyps and I have no memory of that either, so I reckon I had one!

Had one at the back end, pardon the pun, of 2019, not pleasant even with sedation. I’ve also had 3 gastroscopies all with sedation.

Yep,I’m a wimp.

My wife was a bowel nurse specialist and she tells me that the condition can be excruciatingly painful…pleased to hear you survived this life threating condition.
