I had a colonoscopy a few weeks back and I was advised to have sedation but decided against it as it would have meant my wife having to sit out in the car for an extra hour or so while I recovered. The nurse commented that I was a lot braver than one patient she could remember who cried throughout the whole procedure…I think she said his name was Stephen

Nothing as common as a colonoscopy for me but a "flexible sigmoidoscopy" - apparently the colonoscopy comes next in a few weeks

The colonoscopy can be uncomfortable (l've had three over the years) one with sedation ( didn't remember a thing) the other two with entonox. I did get a few griping pains but it was bearable.

The bowel prep is an experience you won't forget.....

David....each hospital gives different instructions for the timing of bowel prep....my last one required me to take both sachets on the morning of the procedure 6am and 10am for a 2pm appointment..... Had l followed these instructions l would have needed a bucket in the car. I followed my wife's instructions and went on a low resedue diet for three days prior to my appointment then had one sachet the night before and the other at 8 am on the day of the procedure.....The doctor said l had excellent bowel prep.

I'm not suggestion that you do as l did but l just wanted to prepare you for a 'blast' . Just make sure you have some vasoline at hand

That’s what I had, not the girlie procedure Onelife had ;)

I found the worst bit was the prep the day before

The low residue diet, think carrot & swede mash  , is a very good way to go for a few days prior to the exploration as is the splitting up of the sachets.

Try to remember that you'll come out the other side much less of a wimp, good luck David

Tell your "friend" that they stick a camera in a place where the sun don't shine
A colonoscopy is a complete breeze, go private and be sedated

Nothing wrong with the NHS's sedation.
Fair enough but if you go private they warm the needle up first

Thinking back ,I wasn’t sedated but had the Entonox, one or two slight gripes but ok.

Oh yes, the Bowel Prep, bloody hell. Had both sachets the night before my lunchtime appt. Vaseline deffo required after. Bloody good clear out I must say.😂😂

I had a colonoscopy on the NHS last Thursday
Appointment was kept exactly on time in a mobile unit on the hospital car park
Very efficient, painless and re-assuring. I was mildly sedated but not as much as when I had one privately six years ago
That occasion was little different except that I had to wait four hours from my appointed time for the treatment.
Isn't the Moviprep an experience to be forgotten
Next time , if there is a next time it will be NHS for me.

The worst bit as far as I'm concerned. Although there was some discomfort as the camera passes over the top and down the other side. All in all though it's not that bad and seemed to be all over in no time at all. Unless you've had one before it's the usual case of fear of the unknown.

It could be worse, you could have the method where they inflate your colon with air. That’s no walk in the park I can tell you.
