Isn't posting comments about someone who is not a member, and thus cannot respond, against the T&C's?

I'm sure it must be against one of the forum rules, somewhere.

As is maybe, joining for 24 hours and never posting again, but what the heck, some can do just as they please, with no consequences.

Hi Wolfie,

You are of course right but I’m sure if Mr Kane was to read this thread he’d be grinning from ear to ear as most of what has been said has been very complementary...including what I have said... in a round about way.

Regards

None of the administrators on this site are paid. It is done voluntarily, in their own time in order to keep the site running smoothly and to provide a temporary outlet in the absence of the P&O site.
All of the administrators and moderators are known to the members. They post openly on the forum and do not hide behind anonymity as moderators/administrators. That is the way the forum was set up and how it is run.
It is not uncommon for admin and moderators of other sites to post on their fora eg Facebook, except where it is a paid position.
Everybody joins this site voluntarily and nobody is forced to contribute.
I believe all administrators and moderators accept that no matter what they do it will never please all the members all the time.

I respect Mr Kane's reasons for not wishing to join this site.

Kind regards

Hard to believe it's 10 years since I first met Derek and Val during a tour of the "White sisters"

Derek Kane was an individual and would never have been allowed to be himself on this forum. Personally, I think any forum is richer with the likes of Derek Kane.

I’m going to tread lightly here..squeak! squeak! as I've also made comments about Mods/friends being moderators.

Your (edited) comment... “I don't think that mods who are posters and friends with the nucleus of members who do all the posting can achieve 100% fairness without leaning towards their friends”... is one that I also share but this is how the administrator has decided he wants this site to be run and you and I can take it or leave it.

I have the greatest respect for both Mob and OBF which makes it a lot easier for me to accept that our Moderators are able to administer t&c rules as fairly as possible.

If you don’t agree with them you should do as I do and send them verbal abuse via a PM

And for what it’s worth I believe this forum is all the richer for having you aboard.

Regards

Keith

May I respectfully point out that questions have been asked as to why the Monocled Mutineer and others have not joined this forum and I merely gave the reasons - in my opinion - why they do not.

Despite the absence of the MM and others, and even with wonderful moderation, we still have a few disruptive spoilers on board.

IMHO, for what it's worth, I think this forum is the better for being moderated by people who are known (albeit in most cases, through cyberspace) to us - there is a degree of accountability. Far too many times I have posted a perfectly valid comment on the BBC and Daily Mail forums, only for it to be deleted with no explanation. The BBC, in particular, are masters at abusing their editorial responsibilities in this manner. I no longer use those sites.

As for the comment about this being a temporary forum site - I sincerely hope not.

I have always enjoyed your incisive balanced contributions to this Forum
So can you imagine how let down I feel after reading your last post and finding you are a Daily
Mail reader. :(

This forum does not belong to any organisation, it was started by one person, and he can appoint moderators as he see's fit.

Unfortunately at times on this forum as on a number of others, you get posters who all they seem to want to do, is to act as "back seat moderators", often the same people.

The forum rules are very straight forward, and if posters do not like them or the forum moderators, then nobody is forcing them to stay.

Forum rules are available to be read by all Members at any time

But purely harmless for the most part

Tell me something if you will .... do you, John and the Giant all post and enjoy MM's postings on his new site and if not why not, given that you obviously hold him in awe ?
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Perhaps those members who know the site where MM now posts would be good enough to PM me the address of that forum.
