Covid Passports

Unread post by david63 »

Following on from today's announcement that there will be a trial of Covid Passports (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56625307) what are your views.

My view is that they will be inevitable for international travel if for no other reason than other countries/airlines will require them.

As for domestic use I am not as sure - in principle I see no problem just as long as there are arrangements in place for those who genuinely cannot have a vaccine for proven medical reasons.

For those who refuse to have a vaccine then the answer is "tough" - get vaccinated or don't go anywhere, simples.

as long as people aren't expected to get an app to prove it - some of us don't have that kind of phone

I'm not bothered about big events because we don't do those. However we do like a meal out, you have to take your mask off and I doubt that restaurants will be viable with significantly reduced capacity. So I think a passport is the least worst option for hospitality.

I’ve ticked the international travel passport option but closer to home I’m not convinced this idea will get off the ground as I think it will come with far too many enforcement/adherence issues.

If you want to go to any event that requires one, then you will either need to have one or stay at home, seemples.

That’s the theory John…there’ll be nothing simples about the introduction of a passport system, indeed I probably have a better chance of picking the Grand National winner than the Government has of getting a workable passport system in place.

Watch this space.

I’m not bothered by them.

Our every movement is tracked as things stand now. Google, Apple, CCTV, ANPR, they know what you’re up to.

As for ID cards if we’re ever going to have a hope of controlling immigration then they’re essential.

We will have to wait and see keefy, Boris will update us on his plans later today. But if they find a satisfactory way of incorporating vaccine passport data into the NHS app, then it should work, and the sporting venues will be the test cases.

Given the absolute botch up the government made of track-and-trace my levels of confidence in them delivering a workable passport system are not high. Specifically they should have done what was suggested well before the vaccine roll out and computerise COVID vaccination records at the outset.

They have done - if you go into your NHS app you will find details of your Covid vaccinations

Ken it appears that plans for a pass are somewhat advanced. I have the app Mygp for ordering scripts and checking any appointments. It will soon have the facility, assuming you give it permission to access your vaccination records which ARE being held on your GP records, to display on your smart phone that you have been jabbed.

That may actually work for us, not mygp, but possibly access through our surgery site.
At the minute we have a piece of card with the vaccine type, batch number and dates.

I have a friend who could print off as many of those cards as you wanted.

I assume that you are referring to NHSNI in which case it is a bit unfair to imply that the UK Government have not "got their act together" when in fact NHS England has and it is NHS NI that has not.

It's fascinating that there are so many concerned about ensuring those who cannot have a jab for medical reasons need to be catered for. The numbers of these will be tiny probably well below half a million, maybe less than 100,000, and yet there are so many expressing their concern.
Quite laudable but rather unnecessary, as I am sure most will not want to travel abroad or go to Glastonbury, and the few that do will very easily be provided with paper documentation, or a covid free test result.

The more immediate question appears to be ‘is everyone going to test themselves twice a week’ ?

I doubt we will, at least not until later in the year when we are mixing more with others, mainly because it will be a waste of our time and govt money until then.
