Grand National 2021

Unread post by Onelife »

For those of you who will have to make a virtual trip to the bookies here are the declared runners for the 2021 Grand National…

https://www.racingpost.com/grand-national/runners/

I reluctantly opened a betting account five months ago as a therapeutic diversion to lockdown. I’m pleased to say I still have my initial outlay with a little bit extra to buy some chocolates for the person who finds the winner of this year’s race.

I’ve already had a little tickle and plunged £5 ew on ‘Talkischeap’ at 50/1..you can now get it at 66/1 in places.

So, to get you started here are my top three…

(1) Talkischeap

(2) Clothcap

(3) Discorama

Chocolates will be forwarded to the winner on Monday

Good Luck

P.s...Click on the horse to see recent form.

Appropriately and like your chocolates I’ll go with ‘Talkischeap’.

I clicked on all the horses as there's not much else happening today ... how long should one wait for the recent form to appear ?

Not bet on the Grand National since the horse I picked fell and had to be put down. A dead loss!

In April 2009 we took our daughter and her (now thankfully dumped) husband for a short cruise on Oceana. The National was run while we were away and to say thank you he stuck a fiver each way on Mon Mome and have the betting slip to Trish. He booked a few for himself but got nothing back. Mon Mome famously won at 100-1 so we collected a few hundred!

It sounds like a win, win Sir Merv

My biggest priced winner was Ben Nevis 40/1. I can’t really remember how much I had on it but it wouldn’t have been more than a 50p ew.

Went to a mate's wedding many moons ago, just for fun I popped into the bookies and had a fiver on ' Team Spirit '. It won but it exhausted my horse betting skills so I called it a day while I was ahead.

Day 1 of the Aintree meeting with the 4.05 being over the National fences.

I’ve had a speculative fiver on Sametegal at 7/1

I’ve also had £10 win on Abracdabras 4/1 in the 3.25

keep smiling

I’m surprised Mrs Onelife allows it. I just about get away with doing the lottery once a week :)

The wife said £1,000,005 so I’ve put the fiver on ‘Farclas’ just in case ‘Talkischeap’ fluffs its lines.

Good point Foxy…. Farclas was entered up for two races, one of which would have been an easier option than the National… I therefore didn’t consider it for this race when making my selections.

Farclas is a ‘novice chaser’ (which goes against its chances straight away), it’s also a 7-year-old which doesn’t help its chances either. It’s prone to the odd jumping mistake but given a clear round I can see this *class horse* running a big race. I normally back a couple in the race so its Farclas and Talkischeap for my money.

Day 2 Aintree

Nothing jumping out at me today so I’ve just done a 50p lucky 15 for a bit of interest

1.45 The Vollan 66/1

3.25 Note Book 13/2

4.5 Ravenhill Road (National Fences) sp

4.40 Cape Gentlemen 11/2

Yesterday’s selections…Abracdabras won at 5/1..I took 4/1 so feeling a bit miffed I slapped another £5 on it

Samategal ran a fine race but faded with two to go.

Keep smiling

Day 3 Aintree

Pleased to hear all the horses and Jockeys have survived the National fences this past two days… here’s hoping that trend continues today.

I’ve still got a few quid in hand so I’ve had £5 win “Janika” 1.45 and £8 win, £2 place “Thomas Darby” 3.35

Farclas and Talkischeap carry £10 between them in the National. 5.15

Yesterday’s selections drew a blank

Keep smiling

I’ve done Burrows Saint and Mr. Malarkey, both each way with 365.
