European Super League
I will openly admit that I am not a follower of football but this report is total garbage https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56812151
Oh what a shame that these clubs have lost a few million due to the pandemic. It is time they joined the real world where people are dying, loosing their jobs, loosing their businesses etc.
If they want to save a few million then cut the extortionate salaries that these prima donas are paid.

I'm not into football either but kids used to get interested when they could see it free every week on BBC or ITV.

Re: European Super League
I am deffo into footy and played 24/7 as a kid and indeed beyond. We knew the names of the stars and pretended to be them on the ' pitch / ploughed field ' but given that nobody had a TV until their late teens it is clear that that was not a deciding factor.
Friday will be the turning point if Man City and Real Madrid get kicked out of the Champions League but somebody somewhere will climb down and a fudge will follow.

Re: European Super League
These are the clubs who are whining about lack of money whilst at the same time they systematically mop up all the best talent they can (and then loan them out for other clubs to develop thereby denying the smaller clubs to develop the talent for themselves and make a few bob on the transfer later on). They pay extortionate sums in transfer fees and ridiculous amounts in players salaries which has a knock on effect when players want to leave but nobody can afford their extortionate wages. Eventually the greed of these clubs catches up with them but not until they have skewed the transfer market leaving the less well off clubs to fight it out for what the 'elite' clubs could not manage.
This is all about money and greed and ignores the role of fans in the situation since football is now big business run by businessmen who have little interest in the club or its fans apart from what they can get out of it.
I'm not fussed whether they form a Super League or not but if they do they should be out of the Premiership and all associated competitions and leave them to build their little empires on their own but I gather that is not what they have in mind.
Never sure why clubs pay the fees of agents when a player is transferred. They are making millions from transfer fees. Why don't players pay their agents themselves? Anybody know?

Re: European Super League
I hope the six English clubs that have signed up to this European Super League thing are kicked out of the Premier League today by the other 14 clubs and the FA. I hope the League Cup final is cancelled on Sunday and that Liverpool and Man City are thrown out of the Champions League and they are stopped from playing their semi-final and that them greedy six are banned from ever entering the competition again. I hope that any English player at those clubs, (there ain't many) are stopped from playing for their country in this year's Euros later in the summer and I hope that when these greedy, self centred, arrogant, football clubs are told, that if they want to return to English football then they start at the bottom of the Pyramid. I'm just very glad and grateful that my own club aren't part of this.

Personally I don't really care about any european league competitions, that may be due to it being on BT Sport which I dont bother paying for, in fact I am beginning to lose interest in many of the PL live matches, I still watch my home town when they are on TV, maybe it's due to old age.

Re: European Super League
All football clubs were posible by the fans. I am sure we have all seen news reels of the thousands of supporters mostly with caps on cheering on their teams during the inter war years. Most players had regular jobs during the week, turning out on a match day to play.
Jump forward to today's game and it's more of a money making machine for the top clubs paying players more per week than some fans earn a year. The top flight seem to have forgotten the fans, using every chance to relieve them of their hard earned money.
True fans who turn out week after week to support their club can be found in a few premier clubs and all the lower devisions, and they are really appreciated by their clubs, hoping for that special run that may bring a bit of glory but rarely manage it.
This may be a turning point and top clubs may stop and look at the monsters they have made and start capping pay and more realistic transfer fees, lower the ternstile price for the fans.
But maybe not.

Looks like Chelsea and Man City are pulling out. That super elite club that is Spurs, who haven't won anything in years, are still hanging in there.

Yeah Man City out, Chelsea on the verge. Both clubs should still be sanctioned in some way for their treachery.

Re: European Super League
Just out of interest where would that put Leicester if the 10 point penalty was applied? All you would need to worry about was West Ham then!

It's all collapsing, they did not think they would receive such a backlash. I hope UAFA do not bow to any demands they may make in the future to line their pockets.
The management's have shown their hand, to show what greedy buggers they are, to say, up you, to everyone else.

I hope the FA grow a pair and punish those six clubs of Satan, but I doubt it knowing our FA. Perhaps they can't, but I hope they find a way. Why should they get away with all the upset that they caused ?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a life long Utd supporter and I’m appalled at this, but in the end all that’s been caused is upset, what can they be punished for.? I doubt there is any legal basis for points deduction or fines etc. Let’s face it Eufa are no angels, about as corrupt as they come.

Re: European Super League
I wonder what UEFA's response will be since they were the ones who would have been most affected. Maybe a two year ban would affect the clubs and its owners where it hurts, in their greedy little pockets, and would have an effect on their transfer dealings. We wait and see.
Sadly it would also affect the fans who, almost universally, have condemned this divisive initiative. It is not their fault their clubs overspend to achieve success.
We are fortunate in having such good owners who go over and above for their supporters and are very much appreciated. Not all clubs are so lucky.

It’s the owners not the Club, players and fans who should be punished, maybe a reformed ‘ fit and proper ‘ check.

Re: European Super League
The ' owners ' of any Club can make changes to their business model as they see fit but the Mangers, players and fans do not have to support them. Punishment is not appropriate albeit the Managers could opt to use rubbish game tactics / the players keep losing the ball or the fans don't turn up ... resulting in lost revenue to the by now unloved owner.

Re: European Super League
If a club goes into administration or their are transfer irregularities, the FA / League take points off those clubs. It's not the players or supporters fault, it's the owners / boards fault but the points are taken away nevertheless.
Those six treacherous clubs should be punished for what they tried to do so no other clubs are tempted to go down a similar route if nothing is done. This won't go away, in a few years time they will try again, just like they have in the past.
They won't of course, we all know the FA won't stand up to the so called big six neither will the Premier League but those six who wanted to stick two fingers up to the rest of us should not get away scotch free with what they tried to do .

Re: European Super League
Going into Administration or paying over the odds regarding a transfer is an action that occurred and because it broke the rules they would be punished. They would not however be penalised for talking about it which is of course exactly the position the ESL proposal reached.
