Driving Licence Renewal

Unread post by david63 »

Does anyone know why when you renew your diving licence that you have to cut the old one in half and send it back to the DVLA? Why can I not cut it up in small pieces and bin it?

Because the Great British Public can't be trusted to chop it up and not sell it on Ebay or somewhere.

That's very weird, my husband asked me the same question not just an hour since. We have just renewed his licence on line. It says you are only allowed one in your possession at any time.
Very quick and easy to renew online.

And easy to lie about your health/eyesight.
When I was trucking, you had to have an actual medical, think it was every 5 yrs once reaching 40. If memory serves me right.

Mobietta had to be tested after her cataract operations to ensure that she was still capable of reading the number plate, albeit in the consulting room. Failure would have resulted in the optician reporting said failure to the DVLA ... or so we believed at that time.

I had an old paper one up to a few years ago in pristine condition, kinda got attached to it, still have it.

I had my second cataract operation last week

The surgeon merely said that I could drive as soon as I met the DVLA number plate test but not before 48 hours. Funnily enough my eyesight is much better than it used to be.

I renewed mine 3 years ago and again a few weeks ago. I still have both previous licences. I cut them in half and kept them in case they chased me for them.
I think after more than three years, I can safely assume that they do not check to see if you have sent the old one back.

Yes I always assumed it was about stopping you flogging it on eBay. But it's hard to see what use a licence that had expired with the wrong photo would be to anyone else!

You can guarantee there will always be someone out there with the tech and know how to be able to do whatever they want with an old licence, or anything else come to that.

If they are so tech savvy, why are they not making an honest living working for P&O and sorting out their inadequate IT system?
