Iconic Album Covers

Unread post by Kendhni »

I was just reading an article that Storm Thorgerson had died. He designed the cover for the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the moon, which is (in my opinion) one fo the most iconic album covers.

Others that come to mind are Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells, Fleetwod Max Rumours, Can, The Beatles Abbey Road (and I am sure there are others that I can't remember at the minute). What album covers stood out for you?

The Freewheelin Bob Dylan album cover.
My brother was a big fan and I used to look at that picture as a young girl thinking I would love to walk down that road with Bob Dylan :D

Oddly enough I was thinking of the Moody Blues albums which I never properly understood but always got me thinking and looking. Their later albums were not as striking but certainly the earlier ones were quite memorable.

Has anybody mentioned The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's album cover? There were some interesting characters amongst that lot.

Certainly the "big 7" were iconic, but there's some good material on their later albums.

I was thinking of Sur la Mer which, for me, was disappointing as an album and the cover wishy-washy compared to the rest.

Others in my memorable album covers was 10cc Original Soundtrack and Cellophane Sunset. I always wondered who the man and woman were, his wife or his mistress?, and what their conversation was about. Quite intriguing.

My iconic album cover was the first LP I ever bought.

Bowie's Aladdin Sane which is now 40 years old!

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars classic album cover and still a first class and best David Bowie album ever.

I often wondered that about their "How Dare You?" album...

I always thought the Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers cover was quite novel with the real zip in the jeans.

From the news coverage, anyone would think that Dark Side of the Moon was the only cover by Storm Thorgerson....
