I stayed there for a few nights back in 2010 (on business) - suffice to say the taxi driver from Bristol airport had no idea where I was talking about.Stephen wrote: 18 May 2021, 12:12Stayed there for a week once. Won't be staying again. Flat as a pancake, bu99er all there and windy as hell.

Not something I learned but something that happened. 71 years old and got my first tattoos today, though the designs are rather uninspiring and their purpose is medical rather than decorative. Still it's something to flash round the pool on Iona next year.

Elvis Presley's manager sold "I hate Elvis" badges as a means of getting money from those that did not like him as well as those that did.

In 2019 a group of Israeli scientists managed to 3D-print a human heart using cells from the patient.
Makes a change from a cheap plastic whistle (which I believe is the first thing most people 3D-print).

I watched that - incredible, especially at the price point they are aiming for.
Starting to show us where this technology could take us.

A friend of ours works in a theatre where they use 3D printing to make props. When they closed due to the pandemic they used it instead to print plastic face visors that they donated to local care homes.

I am still amazed at how they can do 3D printing, I think I understand Star Trek teleportation better.Kendhni wrote: 21 May 2021, 11:51Cool ... and as is appropriate for this thread, I did not know that could be done.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 21 May 2021, 11:28A friend of ours works in a theatre where they use 3D printing to make props. Yes, teleportation is basically a mass murder device. Basically it creates a copy of you in the target area and then atomises the old version - since you are a direct copy you don't realise that your existence only came into place at the point of teleportation so you think you have moved from A to B.towny44 wrote: 21 May 2021, 15:20I am still amazed at how they can do 3D printing, I think I understand Star Trek teleportation better.Kendhni wrote: 21 May 2021, 11:51Cool ... and as is appropriate for this thread, I did not know that could be done.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 21 May 2021, 11:28A friend of ours works in a theatre where they use 3D printing to make props. A good news one for today. Symantec did a security survey of several sites and found out that religious sites had 3 times more malware than porn sites. The conclusion for this was that only of the two site types needed to generate a profit.

When I was working in a hospital in the days when such places had internet connections with less capacity than my current home broadband the IT department were charged with clamping down on personal use of the system after the finance department complained they were having trouble accessing central NHS systems to do their work. The IT audit revealed two things about personal.use. The worst offending department was finance. And among them the very worst offender was the Director of Finance managing bookings for a holiday home they owned. Ooops.

Throughout history if you counted everyone that reached the age of 65 then half of them would be alive today.
Similarly, of everyone that has ever lived approximately 7-8% are still alive.
