At the minute the surface is still only being scratched and I reckon there are many many more 'celebrities' form the 60's and 70's that are sleeping less easily than they would like.

Oh. The whole thing is just sickening. If found to be true, who would have thought it about any of those 'in the frame' ?

We must keep a clear mind and not be swayed with our opinions by the gutter press or tv. Anyone can make an accusation about something that happened 30-40yrs ago and the police have a duty to follow it up, doesnt say that person is guilty of the accusation or that the person making the claim is telling the truth. We must remember "innocent until proven guilty".

I don't read newspapers. I did say 'if found to be true'. I didn't say that anyone was guilty, but the fact is that some individuals were abused by person or persons is a situation that I find sickening; no guilt was attributed by me to any particular person. I hope I have made myself clear.

I agree noddy10, innocent until proven guilty. it's awful that accused people are named before they have been convicted of anything . I know through personal experience that often there is found to be no evidence and therefore no case to answer , but the persons name is already in the public domain and their life can be ruined. The victim is anonymous and so should the accused be. If they are found guilty of course they should be ' named and shamed ' with reference to Rolf Harris, I will be very sad if he is guilty of anything, he seems such a nice man.

Nobody has been charged yet on any of the offences, personally I do not think names should be released until a person has been charged with an offence.

Yes, also innocent until proved guilty.

Quite. If he is innocent, the stigma of having been associated with the enquiry will last. Look at that poor chap in Bristol who was suspected of killing his tenant a couple of Christmases ago. His life was a misery even though he was found to be totally innocent.

FFS who next? Santa for having children sat on his knee

Innocent to proven guilty and the names should be kept out of the public domain untill they are found guilty and sentenced

as an aside, pity the poor bugger who bought a piece of Rolf Harris art for £45,000 on Azura on the GE

Listening to the radio this morning: the BBC have know since last November when the police searched his house, RH was away at the time.

He was interviewed in March and apparently the fact has been widely circulated on the web and on social media sites for months. It is not connected to the JS investigation.

Wolfie, that somewhat contradicts the reports I have seen and hear, where it is most definitely liked to operation Yew Tree, as RH is Yew tree no 5?

perhaps it will become clearer over the coming days

From the BBC news site;
Mr Harris, one of 12 people arrested as part of Operation Yewtree, has not yet made any public comment.
The police investigation has three strands.
One is looking specifically at the actions of Savile, and the second strand concerns allegations against "Savile and others".
The third strand relates to complaints against other people unconnected to the Savile investigations, made by people who came forward after widespread coverage of the scandal.

I think it's outrageous that a man's name and reputation can be dragged through the mud when no conviction has been made.

To be fair HK I can’t see how the police can make a conviction without arresting him first. They will have done their investigations and will no doubt have enough concerns to bring him in for formal questioning. I don’t for one minute think this action will have been done without due consideration to his high profile stature and damage it will have on his reputation.

I rather suspect your comment is referring to the press disclosure of his arrest and on that point I would agree with you.

Keith

I think Ken's right. It was a different world back then, and we accepted things as 'normal' that we wouldn't put up with now. I remember a particular D-J came to our College Ball in 1979. We were all very shocked by his language, the way he behaved, and the things he made students do up on stage (very different from his BBC persona!), but no-one complained.
