Curry Night: what would you have

I have a night out coming up with some friends at a nice Indian restaurant, in a few weeks

so simply put, what are your favourite Indian dishes and why

Very predictable
Onion baji to start followed by either CTM or Korma with pilau rice and garlic nan

Making me hungry thinking about it! Hubby and I tend to share a Lamb Chilli Masala & Chicken Jalfresi, with Onion Bahjees, Salad, Rice & Garlic Naan. I enjoy the hotness of the green chillis with the creamy massala sauce and the contrast of the more tomatoey Jalfresi. Onion Bahjees I could eat for breakfast, lunch & dinner! Roll on Friday!

I don't eat curries but do enjoy chicken tikka or tandoori chicken, accompanied by onion bahjis, sag aloo, sometimes rice or a plain naan and salad.

Almost always have a vegetable Thali and a paratha, don't usually have anything to start but if pushed would have a samosa.
Love Kulfi to finish.

Love Chicken Dopiaza or Chicken Rogan Josh. I love the poppadums and pickles to start and am always too full to have anything else (apart from a drink of course).

Mixed tandoori for me with a peshwari naan. Chicken Vindaloo with pilau rice for Garry. A few poppadoms with onions etc.

If left on auto-pilot at our favourite Indian Restaurant nr Manchester I would order ...

* 2 or 3 Spiced Papadoms with pickles
* Prawn Puri or Chicken Tikka
* Chicken Madras served with ' shared ' Garlic Naan, Onion Bargees, Pilau Rice and Bombay Potatoes
* Almond Calfi for pud

.... and probably three pints of lager to wash it down.

There's two sort of curry nights for me.

There is the lads Curry night that happens after a (pre arranged) long night on the beers with the same 5 or 6 mates, the curry order being 6 Madras, 6 rice, 6 nan and should be eaten as quickly as possible with the winner taking the mystical yellow jersey (I.e. they get to decide the location of the next curry night). we've been doing it for 19 years and it no longer seems quite the good idea it seemed in our 20's

With Mandy, I like to have all the startery stuff like poppodums, Bhajis, pakoras etc, followed by a Balti and nan bread and possibly some Bombay potatoes or sag aloo.

Usually chicken Curly but, if i'm feeling flash, then prawn !

Chicken good choice I'm not one for prawns.
I take ages eating my food, I would never win a race. Hence our recent 3 hour visit to Sindhu! Best lamb Rogan Josh ever though!

Being a Scouser we head more for the Chinese than the Indian (well with our Chinatown you would ) so can I be awkward and choose a chinese mushroom curry with fried rice and sesame prawn toast?

Failing that anything off the veggie menu at Mr Chow's Eating House in Parkgate would be bob on!

We love Chinese but to get anything remotely edible in Dorset I have to cook it myself .... it all seems to be geared to a price point and nothing which could possibly be described as being good quality let alone upmarket.

Even the Yang Sing in Manchester seems to only serve Dim sum these days

Strictly speaking Shirl I should be opting for a pan of Scouse (or rather blind scouse for veggies)! I'm not overkeen on indian food unless it's Sindhu

Dear Darknightie,

So long as the company is jolly and entertaining I would eat just about jolly old anything. Are you dining with such company?

If pushed I would probably go with popodoms with lashings of lime pickle, mixed tandori kebab to start, lamb biriani with a keema naan and a mango kulfi ice cream to finish. Our local Indian serves Marstons Pedigree and I find that 5 or 6 bottles of that helps things along

One of my friends is a curry addict and will always go for the hottest option she can find on the menu. One time she ordered a Tindaloo and the smell of it was enough to make your eyes bleed!

Wina and i would usually share something like this:-

A couple of pops and pickles
Mixed kebab starter (or possibly onion bargee and prawn on pura)
Lamb saag balti and Chicken and keema balti
One keema naan and one mushroom rice.
Cobra beers.
Take some home in a doggy bag!
