P&O website still the same problems??!!

Unread post by melsea »

I have noticed for a few days and beyond that the P&O website is still suffering from 'technical' problems in all areas, most noticeably the webcam which has been showing odd data of its ships.
Also I am finding that the updated version and information and layout of its site to be very messy and dare I say it unfriendly to use. What with the new brochures that have come out it seems they have a team designing things to alienate rather than placate.
So my question is two fold,

1. Now that the so called problems of the old forum as described by them as and I quote
"Update: Tuesday 5th March: The P&O Cruises Community section is currently unavailable due to some website performance issues to which it was contributing. Our priority has to be the overall stability of the website, and as such we have taken the decision to leave the Community area offline until further notice." It cannot in my opinion be attributed to the sites problem as they are still having them? So what next, should they bring it back and in what way?

2. Do you think that such a company such as this is really seeing the whole picture from a customer view point? from where I am sitting it seems no, as the site is a mess and their new layout of brochure seems to be testament to this?

These are just my views on what I can see in front of me and to be frank I am getting somewhat confused by it all. Just wondering if I am alone in this.

I'm still trying to get a straight answer to a question posed a few weeks ago. When I click on the "Contact us" link, I'm given a page with snail mail addresses and phone numbers - but no email address. This is not very helpful.

The telephone number they give is 0843 374 0111 - the real number, to which this diverts, is 023 8065 5000

.....and in case anyone is not aware, 0843 numbers cost the caller a minumum of 5p/minute from a land line, and up to 40p/minute from mobiles

I think P&O have lost the plot in a lot of ways we suffered excuse after excuse about the forum not working right for well over a year before it was "pulled". They blamed all the website problems on the forum when it is plain to see that they continue to have problems in all areas of website even without the forum. Also the introduction of the new brochure recently was very poor and has upset a lot of regular P&O cruisers leading them to seek cruises with other cruise lines. Plus there are numerous daily complaints on Facebook of recent cruisers on P&O about the quality of the food being served. I just dont know what P&O are doing and where they will end up because it seems to me that they are losing a lot of custom and senior management are, pardon the pun, all at sea. I think the loyal cruisers that have cruised with nobody with no other cruise lines will eventually see the light and try other cruise lines and see what they are missing out on and realise how poor P&O are becoming.

Do not believe all you read about the food. We have cruised 3 times in the past year on different P&O ships and had no problem with the food and more importantly heard no complaints from anyone else.

Also not so ancient mariner

I asked my phone provider what are the charges for these 0843 and what they told me astonished me. Apparently there are no set fees as these are set by the people who have those numbers, not sure if this is true as I try to avoid using them.

Funnily enough of the two most recent cruises we have been on those on Oceana & Azura, Oceana produced some of the best food we have ever had. Azura in the MDR was as per usual but not outstanding like Oceana even though it was pretty much the same but they produced it extremely well and felt like it was new. The buffet on Azura was better than I have seen it on Aurora but usually on Aurora we never use it but because on Azura we had little choice as the MDR has lunch served too early for us, we were on second sitting and refuse to pay extra in the other venues ie the glass house.

when people mutter about lack of HO communication on the Official P&O FB page, they are told to email: community@pocruises.com and they will send it up the system.
Judging by the reactions later, this seems to work!

Similarly, we've never had cause to complain about the quality of the food. Some people, sadly (and I am NOT including Noddy in this) will complain about anything though.

Thanks for that, Meg, I've made a note.

Re the charges for phone calls, I'm very happy to pay my telco to make a call, but I refuse to pay the other end to receive it.

Whilst it would be no use in this situation it is often worthwhile to check out numbers here to see if there is a Freephone number:

Say No to 0870

It's worth bookmarking if you don't already have it.
I was taught to be cautious

Indeed - that's where I got the proper telephone number from, but if there's a freebie on offer, so much the better!!

I have that website 'say no 0870' in my favourites. A brilliant site it is too.

The food on Azura last week, especially in the MDR, was disappointing to say the least.

We thought the food last week was slightly better than our last cruise. We enjoyed the new items, as well as the old favourites. I sometimes wonder if those who complain have made poor choices for their taste

We were on Oceana last October for 17 nights and on Azura last month for 21 nights and we didn't think that the standard of food had fallen in any way. We did think that the order of things on the Menu on Azura needed looking at - one night was Roast Rib of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding etc. and the next night was Roast Sirloin of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding etc. - rather odd!. However, no complaints with any of the meals - incidentally the Tasting Menu in The Glasshouse is superb as is the Trattoria in Verona and our meal in XVII was excellent.

I came on to try and find a non-premium number so I could phone for a wine package. Thanks for posting 02380655000.
I found a freephone number on another site, though have yet to try it. 08000523840.

Have to agree with you, really disappointing, just got back on Sunday 4th June it is the only time in 206 nights my wife didn't eat her desert every night :o and we are not fussy eaters. We were on Ventura about six weeks ago and everything was fine in the MDR, the menu did seem different for example " glazed carrot (something) and fresh strawberry cheese cake" ( or some similar description)turned out to be the dry sponge from carrot cake with a tiny blob of Quark and a sliver of strawberry on it :lolno: and that was not the only disaster. The Cunarders on our table were not impressed and expressed their relief it was only a weeks cruise. TBH I not sure what direction PandO are going,

We have just come back from the previous Azura cruise and the MDR food was quite good.
The only comment I had about desserts was that my Rocky Road Sundae must have been suffering from pot holes, I found less than a teaspoonful of rocky road in the bottom of my sundae glass, but on the whole we quite enjoyed it.

By the way London cruiser, the post you quoted was 4 years old!!!!

Must admit we were a little disappointed with the desserts on our spring cruise on Azura. Thought the lacked lightness & seemed to go for size rather than delicacy. The sundae idea seemed good ( too much cream for my taste but others on our table liked them.
One thing I did miss this year was the platter at the entrance to MDR that showed you which desserts were being served that evening. We used to find that really helpful as sometimes a great slab of Apple pie isn't what you want ( other times it's ideal!)
Overall we were quite happy with the MDR meals on Azura.

Carnival IT systems down again, had a Welcome home email from Princess Cruises ( which I thought was strange as I had been on P and O )followed by one three hours later apologising as it wasnt meant for me, My TA has just rung as I`m trying to get a price for a future cruise and their booking system is down , from about 12pm today and still not up and running!

We had the same Welcome Home e-mail with the offer of some OBC, although we haven't cruised with them for about 2 years. I even found myself checking out some of their offers only to get the 2nd email saying the letter wasn't for us and the OBC was only intended for cruisers who had just returned home and were thinking of making another booking.

Carnival really do need to get their act together.
