It is very difficult to discuss any issues when we don't know what the issues are. With this Insulate Britain group I may have missed it but I cannot recall hearing anything about their policies - for example:
  • What standard of insulation do they want?
  • How much will this cost?
  • Have they quantified what the benefit would be?
  • Who will pay for it? bearing in mind that no Government actually has any money other than that raised through taxation.

The right of 'peaceful' assembly is written in law and any attempt to curtail such actions by implementing charges would be a retrograde step in my opinion irrespective of the cost to the UK tax payer.
It should remain that way but be held in the middle of a field someplace well out of the way of the general population, it should also be forbidden to march to such venues.

Everyone's a winner and nobody will take a blind bit of notice of them as is mainly the case now.
But they did stand up and take notice....

I think that I am mindful of the main issues but recognise that there are only a few things that I can personally do. Things like switching to LED lighting plus small measures to reduce energy usage, burning expensive kiln dried logs and being honest with our own re-cycling. Due to the impact of the pandemic we have cut down dramatically on things like holidays and general spending and although my little list may not have much of an impact it is pretty much the best that I can do.

None of my actions have anything to do with the media and for the record we have never taken any notice of the benefit claiming rabble that turn out for each and every protest, they are fighting a never ending battle against authority and have no interest whatsoever in anybody elses welfare. Selfish to the core and ignorant basically.

I 100% agree with you on that David. I am struggling to fully understand what it is they want - but than I haven't taken time to google them and maybe read their site (if they have one).

I suspect the answers to your questions are
- as good as they can get
- nobody will have any idea (if they do it will be a Priti Patel/Diane Abbott calculation)
- nobody will have any idea (if they do it will be a Priti Patel/Diane Abbott calculation)
- this is the easy question ... as in every other idea that comes from any other group the answer is always 'someone else'

You found 10 and had to go back to the 1700s ... hardly impressive.

Your choices caught the publics' imagination and indignation and this was the reason for their success. Climate change simply does not attract the same passion.

I can think of a few more recent ones Mob  ….as for climate change protests the momentum is building but I agree with you in that we can all do our bit but the bit that will make a difference is in the hands of world leaders.

Climate change does create passion in the younger generation, my younger granddaughter (15) is very concerned about it as are many of her friends, and will probably be among the protesters in the future. Fortunately she realises that her education should take priority at present.

I described that earlier in the thread as the 'smoker syndrome', it won't affect me and there is always time to fix it.
Unfortunately we chose not to address the issue and time has run out. The cancer is now present and all we are talking about is the treatment. And that treatment will basically depend on how much of your children's money the government is willing to throw at it. Is it curable? There is no cure at the minute, but if we keep treating it then maybe advancements in technology will provide a cure ... or maybe not!

Not in the general population however .... one's teenage daughters have dreams and ideals be they getting laid by a Celeb, having a horse or going on marches. Great but it won't last and she will grow up into a normal human being.

To paraphrase someone who recently said
"our grandchildren will know that we are the culprits [if we fail to take urgent moves to prevent “desertification, drought, crop failure and mass movements of humanity on a scale not seen before]. They will ask what kind of people we were to be so selfish and so short-sighted.”

Have those pigeons been craping all over your roof again Mob because you certainly seem to have got up this morning in a fowl mood…whether they be 15 or 24 most young people have a broader outlook than getting laid by a celeb I can assure you. Our daughter like John’s granddaughter is very conscious of the impact climate change is having on planet…in fact only yesterday she was taking part in a lecture on how climate warming is affecting insect biodiversity.

I actually think young people are more in tune with the issues of climate change than us old celebs have ever been.

Keep scrubbing

I think you are being very cynical Moby, most of the younger generations in our extended families are concerned about climate change, to a greater or lesser degree, and this is apparent in both our children and grandchildren.

indubitably

However I am concerned about the reference to 'old celebs' and and the dichotomy of saying "young people want to be laid by celebs"

That is why I think that message in the advert that says "I'm only 6, you figure out" is such a powerful message.

I strongly disagree. No six year old knows anything about such matters and is simply being used to promote someone else’s message. Or I should say abused.

You are only considering it literally - consider it more metaphorically

In my youngers years I used to be the splitting image of Les McKeown (Bay City Rollers) so one had to use it to one’s advantage

Nope.

My original statement still stands. Should I invoke a one year old to thank us from preventing the next ice age? If you have to resort to children either real or just play-acting then your argument is specious.
