Strictly 2021

Unread post by david63 »

Well they appear to be scraping the bottom of the barrel of Z list celebrities this year - https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/strictlycomedancing

Anyone ever heard of more than two of them?

Looking at your list Sara Davies is the only name I recognise.
I don't watch the show - given the choice I would search out some wet paint that needs someone to keep an eye on it while it dries :)

The only one I recognise is Dan Walker.
I remember him once saying ‘you’ll never get me on their’.

It ain't about how well known they are for me. It's about seeing non dancers turn into brilliant dancers. Besides I recognise about 6 of them. It's what comes of watching to much telly.

I know 4 of them, but wouldn't say they're A list celebs. It's not always easy to tell who's going to be good, who's going to be the favourite, not always the same and whether there's one who's going to be the comic one if you see what I mean. I expect I'll still watch it.

Dan Walker drawn the BBC short straw this year.
So much for standing down from the Saturday football programme to have time with the family.
Also Adam Peaty takiing 2 months off for mental health reasons.

Well what’s the reaction to last night’s Strictly? Didn’t know half of them  The professional dancers are going to find some of them hard work going by the group dance at the end of the programme. I’ve not watched it regularly for a few years and don’t think I’ll be tempted this time around either

I watched it and thought it was really drawn out and could have been slimmed down. I hadn't a clue who most of these celebrities were but that may be because I don't watch any of the soaps.
However I was saying to my wife following on from the first show dance, one of the attractions is that Strictly is one of the few programmes where you get a spectacle with the lighting, the music, the costumes, the dancing etc. I get fed up with all the quizzes and documentaries and it's good to get a bit of escapism and a touch of glitz and glamour on the screen. I will watch it but I hope we don't go down the route of wheeling grandma and he dog out to surprise the contestants with these contrived 'surprises'. I suppose it does give me time to make a cup of tea or get a glass of something whilst they fill the time in.
I used to like BGT until they started to pad it out with the life stories of the contestants and then I switched off. Not really interested in Auntie Flo etc.
I was taught to be cautious

I never miss it.
Never watch it so I never miss it.
As far as I’m concerned it’s Saturday nights spoilt.

Doesn't float my boat but I record it so that Mobietta can watch it on Sunday afternoons.

I watched until 9 pm then turned over to the football goals prog on Quest. What I saw of it I really enjoyed. My only slight quibble is that they've put two bloke together but it's going to be a great series, like always.

Agree with Foxy, it was drawn out.
The only celeb I recognised was Dan Walk from BBC breakfast. I didn’t realise he was a giraffe impersonator at 6ft 6” tall. I hope he proves me wrong but I have feeling he won’t last long.

We will watch it and see how it goes, although it’s not the show it use to be and I feel it’s days are numbered.

However, we watched the quiz show before it (we like quizzes) which was Strictly celeb based, and quite enjoyed it.

We've never watched it since the first series and I've no intention of changing my mind I don't bother to find out who's going to be on it. People must watch it keeps being made😏

On a Saturday night we always watch a film on Amazon prime or Netflix

I see Strictly as a welcome change to most of the other rubbish dished out on main stream channels.

Like Happydays... we have both Amazon prime and Netflix so have plenty of film options...watched the film " Contact" a couple of nights back which is well worth a watch.

“Based on the late Carl Sagan's novel about a young scientist's efforts to make contact with intelligent life beyond our world, CONTACT is a thoughtful movie. It also provides a good opportunity to discuss how we know what we know, whether on the basis of faith or on what we can prove”.

Back on topic…

“Strictly” :) for those with an open mind.

Same for me Jan.
Mrs B records it for when I’m not there.
I think even she is finding it all a bit samey.

As much as I didn’t want the all Mail partnership to work, they were actually very good. Still not right in my eyes though

Why do you not like the Post Office team? [whistles innocently]

I thought that the judges scoring was, as usual, all over the place and in most case bore little resemblance to their comments (except for Anton) and little relationship to the marks of previous contestants.

Overall I thought (well at least I was told) that the dancing was of quite a high standard this year with several stand out couples, and very few "no hopers"

I will be interested to see how many sexy Latin dances they are asked to perform, not sure I want to see them do a Rumba.

I’m with you on that one Stephen but I didn’t like the body touching in the after-dance interview…it nearly put me off my cheese and biscuits.

Some very good performances for week 1. And while some are weaker no complete donkey. No Widecombe!

I really enjoyed it last night, for me everything was perfect. This season has the potential for being the best yet

Dan Walker was brilliant and is my early favourite. Can't wait for next week.
