Yes, we got our boosters a week ago four days before we sailed. I rang 119 as soon as the six months were up on the Thursday and got a slot on the following Monday evening. Had we waited until we were invited it would have been too late. The NHS vaccination centre that we used is also a walk in centre and with the radio announcements on the Monday morning there were queues outside going up the street and round the block so they had to suspend that aspect of their operations.

We both had Pfizer this time.

We were debating whether to go ahead with our Feb Canaries cruise on Iona, or use the deposit against one of the three 2023/4 cruise we have booked, mainly in the light of the possibility we could be quarantined overseas. However as Lady T pointed out the statistics that we would be one of the, so far, few passengers that have been offloaded, when Iona cab carry up to 5000 passengers, is quite low. So we will go ahead and pay the balance shortly.

Being quarantined overseaswas a real concern for me. I do travel solo and eet up with friends. The thought of me being stuck in a hotel on my own and having is not thrilling. Also making athe arrangements to return back to Swansea.

I am given to understand that Ventura had to do this in the last few days.

We don't really fancy the prospect of overseas quarantine either, but the likelihood that we would among the possible cases offloaded is very small indeed.

There is a possible argument that the likelihood is 50 - 50 - you either have Covid or you don't, there is no halfway house.

There is undoubtedly a small risk of catching it on a ship but that risk plus the consequences are, in our opinion, greater than we are prepared to accept. Being in quarantine with COVID in our own home is one thing but in a foreign land with or indeed without each other is something else entirely.

I agree.

I think the cruise ships are doing well with their screening process, but Covid is a tricky customer, and with the current high prevalence of Covid in the UK, it is likely that a few cases will slip through the net on each cruise.

Although the risk of catching Covid on board might be small, the consequences might be very big. Covid can still be a serious illness even in the vaccinated. Just don't fancy being ill in an isolation hotel aboard, or even worse in hospital overseas.

My next cruise is a Round Britain cruise, and I'm luke warm about it - but an overseas cruise is a definite no from me at the present time.
