Hermes delivery

Unread post by Ray B »

Had to laugh yesterday, our bungalow is configured with bedrooms and bathroom at the front with the living rooms and kitchen at the back.
The good lady was pottering about the kitchen when the doorbell rang. Off she went to the front door and opening it she see a parcel had been left on the door step. Like a lot of us, Christmas presents have been ordered on line and some can be expensive. She then see the the Hermes guy delivering across the road and went over to him to berate his lack of putting the parcel in the agreed safe spot in the back garden if no one at home. Now our corridor to the front door is 30ft long from the kitchen so no way he could tell if we were home.
His reply, he doesn't have time to do all that, it's drop and go.
Nice pickings for the thief. The wife was on fire, he certainly went away with a flea in his ear.
Don't worry, be happy

Not Hermes but DPD.

Last week I was expecting a delivery from DPD - it did not arrive at the prescribed time but I did get a text message to say that I was not in, which was true but I had told them where to leave it if I was out.

Upon further checking I found that the wrong post code was on the parcel - correct street name though. Apparently DPD (and possibly other courier services) do not look at the address - only the house number and post code. I suppose it is a bit too much to ask that they actually check the street name with that on the sat nav - after all it is more likely that the post code will be wrong rather than the street name.

Sometimes the DPD driver seems to find it quicker to leave a parcel in the agreed space rather than ring the bell even when I'm in. This happened yesterday when I had a message to say my parcel had been delivered. I looked outside the front door, no parcel. Then I had a quick look out of the back door where there's a space where the rubbish and recycling bins are, no parcel. So I looked at my DPD app on my phone to see there was a photo of said parcel. It was in the space outside the back door, tucked between the recycling bin and the bin I've got for bottles. I obviously didn't look closely enough but I couldn't see it just looking from the doorway. It would have been easier for me if he'd just rang the bell. I've got one of those front door bells that's got a mobile ringer so I can move it from room to room. It's a reasonable distance from kitchen at the back to the front door and drivers are not always patient long enough for me to get there in time before they've gone.
As far as Hermes is concerned we have a wonderful driver who always makes sure he waits long enough and always asks if I'm ok which he's done since he knew that I was on my own. Everyone around here can't praise him enough. He's Eastern European but has quite good English and is certainly an asset for Hermes.

Can't complain about our Hermes or DPD delivery people. I have always found them efficient and friendly. If I am expecting a delivery and am going to be out for a short while I always leave a discrete note on the door with instructions where to leave the parcel and remove the note.
We are fortunate that we live in a quiet and rather safe part of Cumbria, have neighbours who all watch out for each other and we also have a video doorbell which captures any activity at our front door.
I was taught to be cautious

Must admit our DPD driver Craig is great. Always on time, friendly and polite. Like all things there is always going to be good and bad.

I read a story a while back about someone who told drivers to put parcels in the "recycling bin around the back" if they were out.
However it never crossed the drivers mind that because the recycling bin was at the front of the house it might be bin pickup day

Our Hermes driver is a female version of our Postman in shorts ... even in the winter she is scantily clad, is always smiling and never does a drop 'n' go type delivery.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Stephen, I did see that one last week, not for one minute did I think it would be the case for us.
Having told the story I will say most drivers do use our 'safe place', so we'll done to them.

they also lose returns. SD was sent 2 left shoes - so sent them back - has the tracker number etc - but the tracker on their website doesn't work - she can't get a refund cos the supplier hasn't had the shoes back - so she is out of pocket.

twitter. FB etc are full of complaints that customer service is impenetrable

Had the same thing Meg.
Sent an item back only to find a couple of weeks later still no refund showing in the account from the purchase company. But, we still had the Heremes receipt ticket that you always get from the shop when dropping the return off. After phoning the purchase company I scanned and emailed the receipt to them and hey presto refund done with apology. How they then claim the money back from Hermes I have no idea.

Hermes are notorious for their incompetence in our area. We had an order via Amazon from a company less than 15 miles away that never arrived. The supplier sent a replacement very promptly by Royal Mail. Presumably there is a system for senders to claim for lost deliveries.

Hermes is very dependant on their courier, we had a very good lady courier at our old house, the new flat has a parcel slot in the lobby, and I have not seen who makes the deliveries, but so far no problems, but only had 2 deliveries so far.

rushed off to tell SD - But she said she was so brassed off after heaven knows how long that she has dumped the paperwork. When I said she'll know another time , she said - 'yes, go to the post office instead!''

We got a new Hermes driver about a month ago, the old one was very pleasant if a bit weird.
They picked a parcel up from us about 2 weeks ago and are showing it as awaiting pick up. The catalogue company are looking payment, but Hermes claim they don't have it and that they have not attempted pickup. Despite several emails saying they have it they claim I am wrong.

I have just downloaded video evidence, from my Ring doorbell, of them lifting it and leaving their card in my letterbox. I wonder if that will change their stance.

My Hermes driver lost my parcel in the week, I have one for you but cant find it. I'll come back he said.
Later in the day a complete stranger rang the doorbell and handed me the parcel. She had found it in the middle of the road. It was damaged, probably run over by a car.
So onto the retailer who to ne fair gave me a refund.

I have little knowledge of Hermes but our experience with DHL is laughable.
Our Danish supplier uses them but I think they are losing patience.
Last week we had notification of a delivery on Monday.
We were not at home due to my brother passing away unexpectedly so I changed the delivery to Tuesday via their online system.
Last Saturday we had notification that they tried to deliver but nobody was home.
I went back online to confirm Tuesday and their system showed it was already done.
On Monday while driving back from Kent, we had notification of delivery ???
How?
We were on the A303!
When we got back, a card was found saying that the delivery was left with a neighbour and was duly collected.

I cannot recall a single delivery that has arrived when they said it would.

Because of their track system, you should be able to tell where the consignment is but even that is rubbish.
It once told me that the consignment was in Exeter when it was still in Billund.

The actual driver, Andy is very pleasant and totally agrees with me that their admin is ridiculous.

We placed a lakeland order on Thursday, it was assembled and despatched to Hermes later the same day, and delivered by Hermes an hour ago, and this is our normal experience with Hermes from many online orders from different suppliers.
Maybe we are just lucky.

No. When I said I would play Mozart, Bizet, and Vaughan Williams they said don't call us, we'll call you. I sit by the phone in eager anticipation, but they never call. Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year to you and Robina.

And you try making contact with Hermes, it’s a joke. You just get sent round their website finally ending up with some robotic chat page that is about as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

Other couriers also apply.

Following on from Stephen's #3post and the above, straight from our local paper yesterday.
As if by magic.

A Hermes delivery driver has been warned he faces a jail sentence over claims he stole parcels.

Eduard Zarioiu is accused of the theft of a significant number of packages belonging to the delivery company between August 31 and December 19 last year.

The 45-year-old, of Churchill Road in Norwich, also faces a charge of possession of stolen items including electrical goods, household appliances, clothing, trainers, handbags and perfume.

Appearing at Norwich Magistrates Court on Friday he did not enter a plea to the charges but was told breach of trust and the value of the goods stolen meant if convicted he faces more than three years in prison.

His wife Elena-Mirela Zarioiu, 39, who pleaded not guilty to possession of criminal property, was told the charge carried an 18-month jail term.

The Romanian couple were both committed to stand trial at Norwich Crown Court on December 23.
