They seem a reputable Company Keith

https://www.trustatrader.com/traders/jo ... wellington

https://www.yell.com/biz/j-price-contra ... d-7500354/

https://www.checkatrade.com/trades/JPri ... orsLimited

You may have struck lucky, but being a sceptic I always wonder how a popular trader can come and do the work so quick. If they are that good then they will always be in demand with a work load months ahead.

You know how it goes, ā€˜yes I can do it but it’s going to be several weeks or months’ as they draw breath through their teeth.

I hope it all works out and his work lives up to the reviews. Sometimes you just have to take a chance and go with it, especially with something like this. Hopefully the insurance assessor will know of him and help put your mind at rest

If your Insurer says the roofer is ok then he is. Many roofers / asphalters etc have a gypsy background, they enjoy being out in the open air and away from ordinary folk.

ps ... did you know that your chickens have to be kept indoors due to an Avian flu outbreak ... ?

Hi Stephen, Thanks for the links and I agree with you…. I suppose things slow down around this time especially with full roof replacements, there will need to be extensive scaffolding put up before hand and he did say they would be working through Christmas.

Thankfully the surveyor has got back to us and is coming out tomorrow…

Thanks for the cling film…I don’t supposer you could throw in some tinfoil and a Turkey leg…its going to be a bleak Christmas.

Hang on while I get a clean hanky. 🄲

Your going to need more than tin foil and a turkey leg to cover the roof. :D

Just noticed a section of fence between us and our neighbours is down. Fortunately it's theirs. And their son is a builder so will fix it.

We escaped any damage from the storm but I’ve just spent an hour clearing blown down panels due to last night’s strong winds.
Thought we’d got away with it.

90% insurance cover for the cost of replacing tiles due to direct storm damage ... but c £7,500 to strip roof, replace tile hangers and existing tiles after securing roof with waterproof membrane . Extra £1,500 if clay tiles on the roof need replacing.

Just a wild guess of course :shh:

We had the surveyor out yesterday and after his inspection things are looking better than we were led to believe. He did an inspection of damage but also did some computerised measurements on the condition of the unaffected roof. In his opinion and I quote ā€œthe roof is in very good condition and is good for another 20/30 yearsā€ therefore we have decided to get the damage repaired instead of having a roof replacement. I did ask his advice about what we should expect to pay for a complete roof replacement and Mobs quote was in the same ball park (half the price of that which was quoted by the company mentioned in my previous posts.
Moving on 24 hours we had a local builder (recommended by friend) come out this morning and a nicer chap you couldn’t wish to meet, less of course you’ve met me! :) He has quoted for the labour cost which I feel is reasonable and I am now awaiting cost of scaffolding but should fall ā€˜I hope’ within the insurance estimate. He has promised that once the scaffolding is up, he will get it done.

We had some rain last night which has caused more staining on plastered loft space ceiling but none in rooms …fingers tightly crossed.

As it stands we could be looking at turkey (leg) with all the trimmings for Christmas  :D
