Have you got yours up?
With the forecast of wintery weather on the way I’ve been out and put the Christmas lights up…had a quick turn on this evening and they look great. The snowflake strobe light cascading across the front of the house really sets the scene.

Unfortunately many of mine didn't make it thru last christmas and went in the bin. We have been contemplating buying some new ones this year but all the kids in the neighbourhood have grown up now, so not sure if it is worth it.

Tell me about its Ken…I’ve spent a small fortune on lights over the years but for me it’s generally indoor lights that have a short shelf-life.
My wife decided a couple of years back that she only wanted white lights outside, so I have two sets of mixed lights awaiting a new home…pop in to collect anytime.
We have no footpaths outside our home so get no on-foot viewings but I’m sure the kids enjoy their drive-by’s.

We will have just the one token plastic Christmas tree with lights this year but it'll not be on for very long cos the flashing lights get on my three penny bits
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Can’t be doing with flashing lights, although I can see the appeal with Keith when he’s touting for business

Just in case any of you would like that snowflake cascading feeling this is the type I bought…although I paid nearer £30 for mine and it was bought online.

Not cheap and tacky like 'plastic' tree lights

Re: Have you got yours up?
What about choosing Christmas trees, real ones? Most of the houses in our village have had Christmas trees in a bracket fixed onto the front of the house, about 45 degrees. It started when a very intelligent antique and chocolate shop owner thought it would attract customers. He arranged all the necessary brackets and organised for them to be fixed up where householders couldn't do it themselves. He also arranged for the ordering of trees. Lights had to be soft white (my choice still) and it all looked lovely. He was right about the custom and people used to come to the village, and still do just to see all the trees. His shop has gone now and he's retired but still there's someone in the village who has taken over the ordering of trees providing people get their order in by a certain time. Now many people have changed to coloured lights which is ok but I don't get the idea of blue lights, blue lights, why? This year my son-in-law has got the trees and my brother-in-law is going to put mine up. He and his wife have also offered to buy a tree for me for indoors. I was uncertain if I was going to have a tree this year, last year I didn't but then it was straight after John died so Christmas passed in a blur. We've always had a real tree, apart from one year when we went on a cruise just before Christmas so I had an imitation one but it wasn't the same. I shall have to depend on my daughters to help me decorate it which I'm sure they'll do and after having a tree here, same house, for about 42 years it'll seem really odd not to have one. I feel sorry for my brother-in-law who finds it difficult to be patient when his wife chooses their tree but this year she's choosing two - I've already apologised to him!

Re: Have you got yours up?
I’m with you Carole on the warm white lights which we currently have around our garage set to just on. Can’t be doing with flashing lights. As for flashing blue lights, very tacky, but I bet Onelife’s house is covered in them, probably so aircraft passing over don’t empty the loo on him now word has got out about his open roof star gazing antics
Will choose and pick up our cut tree from our usual garden centre tomorrow. Cut a bit off the end, soak in a bucket of water overnight then up it goes on Monday. Jobs a good’n
If it’s anything like last year’s tree it was looking as good as new three weeks later when we had finished with it, and hardly dropped any needles.

We have had an artificial tree for forty years. It’s so realistic that it drops its needles all over the floor. There aren’t many left now.

Re: Have you got yours up?
We are late this year because we have a carpenter coming tomorrow to lay a new oak floor down in the hallway and lounge.
It’s a major job because he insisted on taking off all of the skirting rather than using trim.
It’s 14mm higher than the original floor so I think it’s going to be touch and go around the woodburner hearth, but the guy seems to know what he’s doing.
He fitted our kitchen and did a brilliant job with a few odd angles.
Fingers crossed

Re: Have you got yours up?
Sounds like a man after my own heart when he insists on taking off the skirting. Will give a much cleaner edge/line barney.
