Good luck today Keith, this storm is coming over us already and in the last half hour has really picked up.

Thanks Ken…. Got up at 7.30 and it was as calm as a millpond, half an hour later the wind is picking up strongly.Kendhni wrote: 07 Dec 2021, 08:02Good luck today Keith, this storm is coming over us already and in the last half hour has really picked up.
We had a message yesterday saying they were coming to put scaffolding up today

I hope your wife is supplying them with hot drinks. Well there’s no point getting wet yourself is there.

My wife still isn’t back yet Stephen but I have offered them a drink…. They said “two ‘milky’ coffees please”, next they’ll be wanting an egg on top of their bacon sarnies…Cheeky buggers!Stephen wrote: 07 Dec 2021, 13:23I hope your wife is supplying them with hot drinks. It’s gone very calm here so I’ve just checked the roof…from what I can see the only further damage is that one of the ridge tiles has moved further down the roof. We should be getting second part of the storm shortly so everything crossed.

Well Keith, did you survive the storm - it was rough here, I could hear the tiles lifting and dropping, but none seem to have become displaced for me.

Hi Ken,
The roof is still there as is the scaffolding, Thank gawd.
We must have been in the eye of the storm yesterday afternoon because the winds returned in the evening. The winds eased off just after midnight and I managed to get my first goodnight sleep which hadn’t been the case this past few days.
Still blustery here today with light rain so not expecting the builder…Friday is looking a better day so fingers crossed he can fit us in then.

Oh dear. I hate that when they haven’t got the courtesy to contact you and tell you why. I aassume you tried contacting him and got the usual answer message “gone on holiday”
Hope you have paid him any money yet.

Re: I'll blow and blow....
Sorry to hear that OL. Why do tradespeople agree to do a job and then not turn up or they start a job and then disappear for a few weeks.
We had a painter and decorator to do the outside of the house. We agreed a price and he said he would be back and would give us a call. We heard nothing from him and once springtime came (months later) we tried to ring him and left messages on his answer machine. Eventually we got somebody else to do it. One day he turned up on our doorstep, paint brush in hand ready to paint the house so we told him it was already done. When asked why he hadn't returned our phone calls he said he hadn't received our messages. Liar!! On yer bike pal!!!
I hope he manages to make it tomorrow.

Re: I'll blow and blow....
I thought it was just a Devon thing.
Mrs B put a new top on the mannequin in the window a while back and a lady popped in to say that she didn’t have time now, but could it be put aside and she would be back shortly.
It was the last medium so Mrs B obliged.
Nearly two weeks later, another customer asked if the garment was available in medium so Mrs B sold it to her.
Four weeks after that, the original lady wandered in and asked for ‘her top’
She was quite cross to discover it was no longer there.
It seems shortly in Devon means a month.
Fortunately there was something else that she liked so no harm and a happy customer.

It’s frustrating to say the least but I’m giving him the benefit of doubt because he might have a genuine reason for why he can’t get to the phone. He did come across as a genuine chap and the scaffolding is up (at his cost) so one must presume he will come good.

Have you got a tarpaulin over the gap to keep the weather out?
