Desmond Tutu ... R.I.P

Unread post by Manoverboard »

South Africa's Desmond Tutu has passed away aged 90. We met him, purely by chance, in his Church in Cape Town many years ago, such a gentle peace loving man.

R.I.P.

If you leave this world with the respect of the world then you’ve done a pretty good job.

RIP

He got too involved in politics for my liking. Politics and religion do not mix well.

I think it was quite acceptable in the circumstances, and seemed to have a beneficial effect on de Klerk.

All he wanted was fairness for all people in South Africa. He fought continuously against Apartheid and for that he deserves respect. RIP.

Re: Davids post

I would normally agree with that statement but his beliefs/religion gave politics a chance to work for all of South Africa not just the white elite so I'm happy to show forgiveness this time :)

To an extent but his influence was always aimed at achieving a peaceful conclusion to a massive problem, it was basically a powder keg waiting to go off. We were in Cape Town for a while during the period of Apartheid and the injustices had to be seen to be believed.
