MERVYN did you receive the same email as us at 13.30 this afternoon saying that the british isles cruise v213 was cancelled and queen victoria would be staying in Caribbean and returning to service on the 5th june you can have a 110% refund if you wish to rebook another cruise or a full refund.

We did but we've booked virtually the same cruise for next year. Same price too so we made a small profit on the FCC.

Well after initial disappointment I'm pretty pleased with the outcome of the Cunard QV cancellation yesterday. The 2023 version of the cruise we've booked instead has a couple of Scottish island calls in place of Glasgow and Invergordon, neither of which was exciting us. We've now got Holyhead instead of St Peter Port, where we've been several times. And although we know Anglesey well so won't bother with a tour at least it's a docking port rather than a tender so we can get off for a wander. We still have Edinburgh, Liverpool and Belfast. The only loss we regret is Newcastle, replaced by a sea day to get to Orkney. But since we've shelled out for Princess grills we have some nice areas of the ship to doss with a coffee or a drink and hopefully decent weather.

Cunard were brilliant with the new booking. Answered the phone very quickly and transferred everything straight across - same cabin, same dining, same price etc. Small bonus of 10% on our original deposit so that will sit in our account for a future trip.

We were staying at the Harbour Hotel in Southampton the night before. Cancelled with no issue and will rebook when May 2023 prices available. CPS transferred parking reservation straight over to the new cruise.

Overall we're more relaxed to be doing the cruise in 2023 than we would have been this year. And our holiday calendar looks more sensible now. We had a lot of stuff in 2022 postponed because of Covid or personal health issues (now resolved, phew) and less in 2023. Including two cruises this year and none in 2023. So overall a good result.

I don't know if you have stayed there before, or if was a recent stay, but when we stayed there a few years back it was, how shall I phrase it, terrible and certainly not worth the money - the Holiday Inn across the road is far better (or at least was), and no I am not on commission.

Ah, not the Grand Harbour. I agree about that. The Harbour is a relatively new one. 5 star.

To add we also had a dreadful experience at the Holiday Inn and will never stay there again.

Is that the expensive one up near Ocean Terminal?

It is. A one off treat. Overlooks a marina.

Is there a discount for quantity? If so I'll take a dozen. Should keep me stocked for a few months.

Yes that's the one. Looks lovely and very handy to head to the port the next day.

Mind you when we take the kids this year we'll be slumming it at the Premier Inn!

Agreed screwy, will be staying at West quay prior to cruise in August, £49, can't fault that.
Don't worry, be happy

Oh well Our loss is someone else's gain. Friends cruising on Azura are now enjoying 10 days aboard plague ship Victoria having tested positive!
