One of the trees in the woods crashed earlier, fortunately early as it fell sideways it missed our back fence. Phew. Neighbours back fence damaged by the winds.

87 mph winds off mumbles head and it was very bad just before lunch.

Thanks OL. My major problem is that I'm in a terrace and the sewer runs under my house and makes my garden about 3ft higher than those surrounding me which leaves mine quite exposed. When I had it replaced the last time it wasn't done that well really so I'm not entirely surprised it's happened.
I've been sitting here thinking that I need to find someone better to do it next time.

We appear to have been very lucky and pretty much escaped the storm (just a smidge of wind this afternoon). I am just off the phone to a friend who lives about 8 miles from us and he says it had been blowing a blizzard at his house (he lives at the top of a very steep hill and phoned to warn us to be careful when going over tonight).

The worst seems to be over up here - we had a gust of 40mph this afternoon but other than blowing the garden furniture about we don't seem to have had any other problems.

Very relieved to hear that my daughter who was in Cornwall has now met up with her husband and children to spend a weekend with friends who live near Lyme Regis. Neither she nor my son-in-law who travelled from their home in the Meon Valley had any problems on the road. Near here, in Hill Head a friend saw a tree fall on a green just opposite their house. This was one of the trees that my friend and some of his neighbours put lots of lights on at Christmas. Guess they'll need to find another tree.

Hope you soon get sorted barney. We used to live on the coast and it was a regular occurrence to lose slates off the roof. It was quite common to get sand blowing down the chimney.
Hope you all keep safe.

Don’t let me interrupt what you are doing Barney but just a quick message to you let you know I’ve just dispatched a box of keefies finest and a pair of builder’s gloves.

Keep smiling  .

Sorry Barney. You've been through enough. And now Keefie's chocolates too. You have my deepest sympathy.

Our son in Maidstone had no damage himself but unfortunately his neighbour lost a lot of tiles, the majority of which landed on their cars.
The Audi is less than a month old and has substantial bonnet and grill damage and the BMW was peppered.
They are praying that the elderly lady has insurance.
They don’t know how it will work.

If the tile was blown off during a storm then your neighbour will not be liable unless it can be proven they were negligent. This means you would need to prove the property was in an obvious state of disrepair, prior to the high winds removing one or more tiles from the roof.

Surely if the neighbour has comprehensive house insurance then the car owners will be able to claim against her insurance. They may need to claim through their car insurer, but they should avoid losing their no claim bonus.

Hi John, these incidents are considered acts of God so it will be the car owner’s insurance that will have to cough up.

God has a lot to answer for in my book.
