Congratulations!!!
Congratulations to our curling teams!!
It's been a pretty dismal Winter Olympics with not a great deal to cheer about but the curling has been totally entertaining. The men's team matched Sweden throughout their final and could easily have won but for some brilliant play by the Swedish skipper. That match could have gone either way.
And what a great way to wake up this morning to find the women's team had won gold. They had had a really tortuous way through to the final but on the night played so well against their Japanese opponents and won comfortably.
And what delightful opponents the Japanese ladies were; they reminded me of a little bunch of chattering sparrows and even though their game was slipping away from them they remained cheerful and upbeat.
Olympic sport at its best and I feel so pleased by our success. There'll be a few sore heads around this morning!!!

Re: Congratulations!!!
Not something I particularly enjoy Foxy.
Is the curling all that’s left of the olympics as that’s all I keep seeing when turning on the tv.

Prefer it to the half pipe which seemed to dominate and the ski racing. Figure skating seemed to take a back seat.

I’ve watched quite a bit of the Curling and like Foxy was delighted to see Team GB win the Gold…just a shame they appeared to have lost their Scottish voices when the National Anthem was played. Even Meghan sings the National Anthem.

Re: Congratulations!!!
Actually three out of five wasn't bad and a fourth was overcome with emotion. It was good to see plenty of union jacks around.
Me again did indeed sing the national anthem but only through gritted teeth.

I must have blinked at the wrong time as I only saw one muttering something that resembled the NA…Mehgan just can’t do right for doing wrong…If she kicks back at Royal protocol, she gets slammed, if she goes along with it, she gets grit thrown in her face.oldbluefox wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 12:31Actually three out of five wasn't bad and a fourth was overcome with emotion. Gritted teeth or not, at least she attempted it, not what you are saying that the jocks did not. Its team GB not scotland.
Don't worry, be happy

Re: Congratulations!!!
I think I saw something you did not. Three did sing.
I am usually the first to criticise athletes who appear, and are funded by Team GB, but then fly their own national flag but that didn't seem to happen even though both GB teams consisted of Scots. It doesn't always happen so fair play to them.
Have you ever watched the England football team?

Hi Foxy…if you say they were singing then I must have got it wrong…this being the case you can dish out any punishment you see fit…. however, as I can’t seem to get it on playback would you be so kind as to post the link as I want to watch it while doing my penance.oldbluefox wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 13:13I think I saw something you did not. Re: Congratulations!!!
Keefie, why are you so smitten with Meghan, she's only a 2 bit second string actress after all. If she had gritted her teeth and stuck it out in the UK despite all the problems she thought she had, then maybe she would have gained the respect of most of the nation, but she surrendered at the first opportunity, which is why she is now held in such low esteem.Onelife wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 12:51I must have blinked at the wrong time as I only saw one muttering something that resembled the NA…Mehgan just can’t do right for doing wrong…If she kicks back at Royal protocol, she gets slammed, if she goes along with it, she gets grit thrown in her face.oldbluefox wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 12:31Actually three out of five wasn't bad and a fourth was overcome with emotion. 'That interview', preaching to us all about climate change whilst flying here and there in private jets, spouting her political agenda, lieing (otherwise known as her version of the truth), playing the race card.........
It could all have been so good but she has burnt her boats as far as I'm concerned.

I like strong independent woman who chose to stay that way despite being told how they should conform to an out-dated institution. She married Harry not the stupid protocols which are so archaic that even the corgis are still allowed to sh*t over the carpets without being reprimanded.towny44 wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 13:52Onelife wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 12:51oldbluefox wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 12:31

As for your “she’s only a 2 bit second string actress after all” good try John, but I won’t be taking the bait, I’ll just treat that comment with the contempt it deserves.
I struggle to understand why any women wouldn’t want to remove themselves from such an oppressive institution…but for some reason some have put a misguided duty above that of their own happiness.
If this is your view of how Royal protocol should be endured then no wonder you and others see Meghan as the evil bitch you make her out to be.
What all Meghan haters need to appreciate is that they have allowed themselves to be manipulated by the media whose job it is to build them up only then to knock them down again…with, of course, a little help from the Firm who have always treated her like a 2 bit second string actress.
They are both well out of it as far as I’m concerned but should they/he wish to visit then they have every right to do so with the protection that is afforded to those who could be targets because of the media rubbish that insights nutters to make names for themselves.

Why pick on Meghan when you could have picked half a dozen of the Royals who have done the same?oldbluefox wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 14:07'That interview', preaching to us all about climate change whilst flying here and there in private jets, spouting her political agenda, lieing (otherwise known as her version of the truth), playing the race card.........

Hi Foxy…thanks for that I was looking at day 15 not 16.
Having taken a second look, you are absolutely right that three of the gold medallists were indeed making an attempt to sing, however, I would ask that you refrain from sending me chicken and dry biscuits because as you know I am a expert in linguistic lipreading and If I’m not mistaken the three you mention were in fact singing” Flower of Scotland”
Scotland will be very proud of their achievement as will I hope the rest of GB.

Re: Congratulations!!!
To all your comments I would just say that she knew what marrying Harry entailed, and had been warned by several friends about how intrusive the media would be. She must have realised how sensitive and thin skinned she was, so why on earth did she agree to marry him. However she let the pomp and glamour turn her head, and the result is now clear for the vast majority to see and understand.Onelife wrote: 20 Feb 2022, 15:47I like strong independent woman who chose to stay that way despite being told how they should conform to an out-dated institution. I’m not sure I would agree John but if that is how you see things then fair enough. What I would say is that we all get our opinions from what we read or what we deduce from listening to interviews. What we rarely consider is the personality’s trait of different cultures, some of which probably explain the fractious relationship between Meghan and the Firm. It is for this reason I am more accepting that this whole sorry episode is more to do with personality clashes born out of cultural differences/traits as opposed to how it has been portrayed by the media.
