Ah. I see that Ken insulting me is okay. Me insulting Ken gets deleted. Hmm. Has John Bercow been made a Modplod?

Well, I’ve just looked up strawman argument & ad hominem so today has been educational. I can’t see me using either term at present ( not sure I’ve quite got my head around the strawman concept - although in a legal sense it’s pretty straight forward.)
I must admit to being shocked that J R-Mogg is considering the reintroduction of imperial units. Did he never do physics at school? ( ok, it was probably called natural philosophy but it’s a heck of a lot easier using SI units than messing about with a load of fiddle factors [constants].)

Since the only other person I know that uses these sort of comments to baffle his listeners is Boris Johnson, I do rather wonder why Ken would want to copy him.
However if Mogg suggests we go back to imperial currency I will not be happy.

I believe J R-M is recommending the Groat and the Guinea.

We've already had brexit, covid and Russia as excuses to put up prices. Now the talk of imperial units coming back has to be a non starter. Can anyone imagine going backwards, and what would be the benefits.
Why is he talking about imperial units?

Earlier, when everyone was talking about JRM considering going back to to imperial measurements, I thought you were joking, but I’ve now seen the news reports.

I suspect it’s just something to please to Daily Mail and Express readers - no one else would genuinely think this is a good idea. For a start, a large portion of the population has not even been taught the imperial system, including JRM, born in 1969 !

So impractical it smacks to me of winding up the left and their Guardian readers.

Of all the possible things and changes that could be made I think Rees Mogg (our minister for the return to the 18th century) sees reverting to imperial as low hanging fruit and something he could easily achieve. The fact it will be a major upheaval for business to take us backwards several decades will not phase him, nor will the impact to the youth (who are not familiar with an antiquated avoirdupois system) and the education system. On the other hand, I really do not think there is any appetite for it outside of a small antediluvian minority.

Maybe he is trying to sabotage our ability to trade freely with a more modern world ... maybe he is just lost without his scruples.

The Idea is so ludicrous I cannot see it being a serious proposal.

An unashamed crib from Twitter (by Peter Smith) that made me smile.
‘Rees Mogg launches study into reintroducing Imperial weights and measures. The bloke is one barleycorn short of a cubitt.’

After yesterdays pathetic response from countries around the world, it doesn't surprise me ... it was like going up to the bully in school and saying if you don't stop I am going to let you continue. Worrying times!

I don't think it would have made any difference what the West said or did, Putin had his plans and it was only a matter of time before he carried them out.
Indeed, worrying times.

I feel for the Ukrainian people trying to flee places like KYIV, many not knowing where they are going to end up. A terrible situation.

I see after the announcement of the price of crude oil shooting up to a record $100 a barrel the petrol stations are starting to fill up.

Don’t believe sensational press stories mate.
It’s miles off the record price of $162 a barrel.
