Philips Airfryer.

Unread post by Mr-big-bits-mk2 »

If you hate oven chips, love deep fat fried chips but live in terror of what they'll do to your waist line then there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Get an Airfryer. It works by some kind of weird magic but you end up with delicious deep fried chips that havn't been deep fried.

We very rarely eat chips so when we do it's to hell with the diet and down to our excellent local fish and chip shop. Haven't actually owned a chip pan for about 25 years.

Many years ago mine overheated. I picked it up and threw it out of the door , straight at a small clothes horse which caught fire. Consequently I didn't have one for many years. I bought an electric one but they never seemed the same , so back to basics. It is only once in a blue moon but sometimes you need the comfort of the 'real' thing.

As one who loves chips but only has to look at one to put weight on that machine sounds a great idea and has good reviews over on Amazon (but same price from Argos). Around these parts you ask for chips at the chippy and get a bucket full (very generous portions) so the opportunity just to have a few chips without worrying too much about all the calories looks good to me.
And I've tried all the oven chips and they all taste like chewing cardboard.

There is only one way to cook chips.....the secret ingredient is potatoes. You part boil the spuds having peeled them and then cut them to size, you then fry them in a chip pan with the lid on in hot.................lard...The older the lard the better.

Lard sandwiches are very nice as well...ain't had one of them for yonks.

Me too Paul - a big chunk of farmhouse bread spread thickly with pork dripping (with jelly and bits from the bottom of the tray) and plenty of salt.
Now that's bliss!!

DQ ... As we have got older we have found we eat far less that we used to. The OH has an allotment so fresh vegetables and fruit are always available. We have a roast at the weekend but in the week it will be fish or chicken. Just occasionally the naughty comfort food creeps into the house.

Dancing Queen - 'if I don't think it's healthy we don't have it'.

Rumour has it Dancing Queen has now graduated to alcohol free champagne, commonly called apple juice. Now that's what I call healthy.
However I notice she writes 'if I don't think it's healthy' so maybe that's her little get out of jail card. After a few glasses of champagne it's difficult to think straight anyway.

Is it not possible to get a fat-free low-calorie dripping sandwich? ;)

It wouldn't work unless the dripping could drip off the end of your chin M&T. I presume it would turn out like an insipid low fat Flora, with about just as much flavour. Don't give them ideas!!!

Having seen the damage an ordinary chip pan can do when they catch fire have never had one in the house. We use an electric deep fat fryer and have never considered an airfryer because we like battered fish occasionally with chips and mushy peas mmmmmmmmm.

Whilst you won't get a piece of fish in an Airfryer you can do smaller items such as Scampi which again tastes like it has been deep fried rather than dried out in an oven.
