Germany were in some way, repenting for their actions against Russia in the second world War by having trade deals with them. They have seen how the amount of atrocities on the scales have now have now tipped the other way, and now thrown out the supply of arms embargo.

I don't think even Putin would be stupid enough to attack a NATO country, especially since the almighty Russian army has shown itself to be less than effective against a much smaller Ukrainian army ... but then again we should not underestimate the stupidity of a leader that sanctions the committing of atrocities and war crimes on a daily basis.

My bigger concern is that Putin appears to be the sort that would willingly annihilate the entire planet if he doesn't get his way.

Putin is between a rock and a hard place. The might of his forces is being repelled by a smaller Ukrainian army. The US and Western Europe are providing intelligence and hardwear and sanctions will ultimately harm his economy. Any victory would be Pyrrhic considering the hatred Ukrainians would feel after the atrocities they have endured. No doubt there would be insurgencies for many years hereafter.

The danger, as Ken says, is that he would do something totally irrational to try and save face.

Russian allies may have something to say about that, India, Belarus, China etc, may be giving there support to the thugs of Russia but should Russia turn their threats into reality then none would be spared from the fallout of a nuclear war. Whilst they would escape the devastation of a nuclear strike, they would all succumb to the aftermath of what is left behind. Just a few hundred strikes would change the climate of the world for months if not years (according to what I have read)
I don’t think Nukiboo Putin would risk a NATO response, therefore any nuclear strikes will be centred on Ukraine (which, sadly is a strong possibility due to NATO arms deliveries).

There seems to me to be no good choices for Ukraine in this dreadful war, if we keep supplying Ukraine with weapons then a nuclear strike on Ukraine becomes more likely, with the inevitable surrender coming shortly afterwards. NATO has made its bed and now must watch as slowly but surely Ukraine becomes a dustbowl of NATO’s reluctance to counter Putin’s Nukiboo threats with their own threats….should they do this; Russia’s allies would soon realise that being a bystander to what is happening will ultimately be bad news for them also.

NATO should in my opinion make it clear to Nukiboo Putin that any further escalations won’t be tolerated without a response, both in arms/planes, but also with boots… on Ukrainian ground.

I said from the start of this dreadful conflict, why is the world just letting this happen and allowing bully boy Putin to do pretty much what he likes.

Unfortunately the nuclear fallout from doing that will be devastating for much of Europe.

The only solution to this that I can see is from within Russia. Surely at some point the Russian people will start seeing the bodies of their military being brought back and will start asking questions. Whilst Putin et al can put as much spin on this in the Russian media as they want the hard fact of body bags will change public opinion - hopefully.

I am certainly with Onelife on this, NATO and the UN needs to warn Putin that unless he declares an immediate cease fire, they will commence full scale air and missile attacks on the Russian supply lines, and their front line forces in the Donbas.
If they had countered his initial demands for Ukraine to fall inside Russia's orbit, with their own threat to send in troops to support Ukraine in the first place, this war may never have got off the ground

As I suspected, Russian state TV has said that Putin is more likely to launch a nuclear war than accept defeat in Ukraine.

The Russian commentator said "We will go to heaven, while they will simply croak... We're all going to die someday.”. If they believe that then they are delusional ... the only thing that will happen to a genocidal maniac like Putin and his murdering, raping and child molesting thugs is that they will burn in hell.

We will see on May 9th the military might of Russia, that has not been dispatched to the Ukraine , on parade in the grand march past.
Remember, Russia lost something like 7 to 8 million combatants in the second world War. There are just a few thousand fighting the Ukraine.

It looks like NATO is starting its own 'special operations' in eastern European countries, especially those that border on Russia. I am sure the commies will be understanding about the need for special operations.

Also interesting to read that defence capabilities of many countries that border Russia and Ukraine have now been seriously bolstered with modern weaponry ... allowing those countries to free up some of their older planes, tanks and other armaments for the Ukrainians.
