Guess who came visiting us this morning.
We were in town and came across a gaggle of Labourites in their red rosettes, presumably prospective Labour councillors. The reason for their gathering was the visit of Sir Hindsight himself. Apparently he was asking what the major issues in the town were and the faithful came up with the usual cost of living problem which would clearly feed into his 'eat or heat' mantra.
I am now wondering if he went past the nail bar where they were queuing out of the door or past the numerous vaping outlets, the betting shops and the tattoo parlours who all seem to be doing well, let alone the numerous coffee shops. Something, somewhere is not making sense in this town. As one lady on the television said, "I have to make my own chips now and Netflix will have to go".
I was taught to be cautious

Our garage will pass the MOT but let us know that the brake pads, for example, will likely need changing by the next MOT.

ps ... we drove to Sparkford today for one's booster jabs, not a Labourite in sight ... just saying.

Bizarre that voters interviewed about the local elections are mainly talking about national issues. They seem sadly ignorant of the things their councillors actually control. Fixing the potholes would help the cost of living crisis. Save a fortune in damaged tyres, wheels and suspension. Provide some jobs too.

I heard on local radio this morning some people standing in the local Council elections in Portsmouth and surrounding area. The majority of the candidates interviewed were mostly talking about national issues rather than local issues which surprised me.

Needless to say I won't be voting. I have never heard of any of our prospective councillors and once elected we never hear from them again. On the odd occasion I have contacted them I got an acknowledgement and never heard anything more.

Well the guy who is the prospective Labour candidate, who will almost certainly get in, lives six doors up the road - so I will certainly hear and see him again - and if I have any issues I will be banging on his door!!

If you use facebook there is generally a local group page, and many of our local councillors use this as one forum to communicate with their voters.

I will be voting for whichever party takes the time to knock my door and tell me what it is they are standing for ... I really don't care which one ... just one ... any one. So far I have only seen one politician out canvassing and I am pretty sure that was because she had arranged to be followed around by several journalists and, what I assume was, a TV camera.

I’m with Foxy and Ken.

Unless they come a knocking and introduce themselves and explain their polocies lies then why should I be bothered to go and vote.

We have received just one pamphlet, from the Tories, it tells us to phone a magic number if we see a pothole that needs fixing. The umpteen road works on the A357 from Wincanton to Stalbridge yesterday suggests that her campaign is going well. We will therefore vote for her ... if we get a Polling card that is.

We have no local election where we are but I will admit that both of our local councillors are independent and very visible all year round.
Our MP (Tory) actually lives one road across and is also very visible.
Before Parliament, she was a local councillor and is very accessible.
I don’t necessarily agree with her political stance but will admit that she’s a very nice person.
We often chat during the beach clean.
Not about politics obviously 🙄
That probably wouldn’t end well.

We don't have local elections this year but when we do I vote for the person, not the party. You very quickly learn who is any good and who isn't.

We have one, for whom I didn't vote, who is a total windbag. Constantly taking credit for things that others have done, and manages to fool enough people to get re-elected each time.

I've had polling literature from the Conservatives and an Independent candidate who is standing for the first time. Our Conservative Councillor is always very visible and has done a lot for the area and is well respected by many local people. She's been both a County and Borough Councillor in the past and I'm sure she'll be re-elected. The Labour candidate has stood in both Parliamentary and Local Elections for years but I've never had any literature or even know what he looks like. Haven't even had any literature when it's been a Parliamentary Election. I know this is very much a Tory area but it doesn't seem as if some of the other parties make much effort. I live in the heart of the village but have never had anyone, other than the Tory candidate, knock on the door.

I didn't realise you lived in Johnsons constituency.

Harsh, but I'm not surprised. Same old, same old.

I don't. And the ineffective councillor concerns wears Sir Hindsight's colours.

By contrast, another whom I did vote for, is the same flavour and is brilliant.

It is just that your description was almost identical to how Max Hastings described Johnson, so you can see why would be confused.

Is it true that Neil Parish did not have a direct line of site to Angela Rayners legs.

This business, true or not, of watching porn whilst in the House of Commons raises a bigger question - why are MPs allowed to play with their phones? They are in their place of work and should be taking due notice of what is going on.

It was worse than just looking at porn. Apparently they had to remove the whip from Parish. Just what was he up to 🤣 🤣🤣

He opened the porn on his phone by mistake. Okay. Leave him alone, he's embarrassed. Bless him.

And if you believe that.........

Now why am I not surprised that you quote Max Hastings when this is his view of Britain.

"""Hastings hates British complacency about her military past, he hates British chauvinism, he hates Britain's patronising attitudes towards her allies, he hates Britain's love of turning retreats — Corunna, Dunkirk, Mons — into moral victories, he hates her continuing penchant for 'gesture politics', and he is damned ...14 Sept 2013"""

Based on past history, his better excuse was that he lifted his phone and was amBUSHed by it.

First, that is not his view, that is the view of David Crane on Max Hastings. Secondly, rather than click and paste the first sentence of the first paragraph that you found on google, you should have read the entire story which shows this does not mean what you appear to think it means.
