Tipping - not on a cruise!

The other day I was on the phone talking to my brother when my Ocado order arrived. My brother said he'd hold on while I opened the door and took the delivery. He heard me say thank you to the driver for putting the bags in the hall rather than leaving the bags on the doorstep for me to move. When I'd closed the door my brother asked didn't I tip the Ocado driver. I said that I didn't, I never have. Then I wondered, am I being mean, should I tip the driver. My brother says he tips a pound for his delivery, I don't know which supermarket, probably Sainsbury's.

The only people I would think of tipping are taxi drivers, not that I use taxis very often. I don't tip my hairdresser. She used to work in a salon but has retired and comes to the house to do my hair so now I make her coffee!

So do any of you tip a food delivery driver?

Sainsbury do the vast majority of our deliveries with Waitrose doing a now and then slot.

Normally we would not tip but when we have deliveries during the Christmas and / or the New Year periods then it's a tenner every time. They can keep it or ' pool ' it, allegedly. either way I am not concerned.

We don't tip the delivery driver any more than we would tip the shelf stacker or checkout operator.

Same here Mob…Refuge collectors get a Christmas fiver as do our two regular Tesco delivery drivers. We tend to tip in restaurants but never more than a tenner whatever the cost of the meal. My hairdresser (wife) only gets a tip if she gives me something for the weekend

We wanted very much to show our gratitude for these folk seeing us through the pandemic as without them we would have starved. We also tipped the ladies from the Farm Shop that did our end of week top up deliveries, a box of chocs ( HC ) for each of them.

Christmas time for us. I know it’s not the same driver each week but I guess it will even out. Must admit we have had some interesting drivers ( one an air traffic controller who had been laid off.) Always very pleasant (Sainsbugs).

If we had the same driver regularly we might do the same but we don't. We've rarely had the one twice. A mate of mine has been driving for them since the start of the pandemic and we saw him for the first and only time last week.

Qe do tip our milkman £20 at Christmas. He comes 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, with only 2 days off at Christnas and 2 at New Year. He's here before we get up every day and also brought fresh veg during lockdown. He's worth his tip.
