I wouldn't bet on that. Anyway despite the anti English rhetoric coming from some of them, I think they will vote remain. It might be closer than last time because they are heartily sick of BoJo, but they have a House of Commons representation much larger than their population would normallywin.david63 wrote: 29 Jun 2022, 10:13One thing about Scotexit is that if the result is no then Mrs Krankie's political career is over

Re: Current Affairs
Many years ago when I was on a ship with an all Scots crew, (great times), I observed that winding up the English trumps all other activities. SNP might be failing Scotland (I dont know), but they sure enjoy what she is doing to us. I will be very sorry if they vote to leave, but I dont think they will.oldbluefox wrote: 28 Jun 2022, 19:02That's true Ray but they keep electing her.Ray B wrote: 28 Jun 2022, 18:56True what the opposition say, she has this obsession with a referendum instead of the more important issues in Scotland

I hope you are correct Frank, why can they not see we are better as a united union and not a small country.

Lots happening in the last week or so that people didn't want to mention for some reason, but I thought that Scottish independence would get the ball rolling again. Looks like I was right I

I thought the result of the last one they had in 2014 was meant to last for a lifetime. I don't call 8 years a life time.

It's not a surprise to anyone in Scotland that the snp are stirring things up again their whole mantra is independence above all else.
They should be sorting out education, NHS, trains etc and the roads are a disgrace full of potholes. There's also the matter of black holes in the accounts and not meeting freedom of information requests.
Also they will never accept a remain vote you can be sure if the previous referendum was the same result but they won there would have been no talk of a second.
Anyway I'm not going to say anymore as it just gets my blood pressure up!
Except , bensham that's what we were told!

Because it's the young people that have very little experience of life that believe the promises that they will get anything that they wish without having to do anything! Remember that now 16 year olds now have a vote.
We lived in England for over 30 years. Perhaps we have a more mistrust of the false promises, having lived elsewhere.

Keep them away from Braveheart since for good or ill it will be a decision they will have to live with.
Unfortunately Sturgeon seeks to whip up nationalist fervour to achieve her aim and I'm not sure independence will be the success she claims.

They are unlikely to vote for a party aligned with England.
The SNP appeals to them because of; The history of ruthless English conquest, From, The Bruce, William Wallace, Charles Stuart, Bannockburn, the Highland clearances etc., etc.
They have a stronger sense of nationhood than we do, all the Celts share this. In Scotland, the SNP express it, along with the kilt, the pipes, and the Gaellic. Hence the strength of the SNP vote.

So what you are saying is, Frank, the Scots live on the past.
If the ruthless English peoples were that much hated, why do we have 1000s of Scots living here?

If they get independence then we should allow all those Scots that want to come over the border and settle in England to 'emigrate.' As long as they don't come further south than Cumbria.

Re: Current Affairs
It seems ironic really that James1 could have made Stirling or Edinburgh the capital but instead chose London.
That was a big mistake if you are a fervent Scot but they could be making an even bigger one if they base their vote on past grievances.
I am always slightly bemused when they sing Flower of Scotland with such passion....."And sent him homeward to think again". Am I right in thinking he did think again, returned and this time it did not go so well for Scotland.
Imo it's folly to live in the past and the independence issue is not as straightforward as some seem to think.

Re: Current Affairs
Do we think Johnson will call an early election?
He will only call it if he is pretty sure he will win it ... but that gamble didn't pay off for May.
I think it is too close to call ... and even if he does win it and is found to have misled parliament it may be very short lived.

He might win it but his majority is going to be greatly reduced. I think that between them Labour, Lib Dems and other parties will win more seats between them than the Tories.
One thing's for certain, Labours best chance of winning is if Johnson is still in office.

Logan Mwangi, five years old who's young life was heinously cut short by those who should had cherished and protected him.
29,28 and 15 years handed out by the judge.
No doubt they will be given protecting in prison, (screwy may know more about protection) which is more than young Logan received. It wouldn't bother me if they were just thrown in prison and let the prisoners deal with it, not kill them, but subject them to what they dished out to Logan.

Thank you kind Sirs, not to sure that the red wine is cheaper that's another thing she tampered with the price ratio to alcohol we aren't allowed some of the deals you get as obviously we have to be told what to do.Stephen wrote: 30 Jun 2022, 14:55oldbluefox wrote: 30 Jun 2022, 13:01The border posts are already manned as we speak and building of Hadrian's Wall is underway........ but we'll let Happydays through.Bensham33 wrote: 30 Jun 2022, 12:49If they get independence then we should allow all those Scots that want to come over the border and settle in England to 'emigrate.' Re: Current Affairs
I was on a cruise, on I think Adonia, when the first referendum was held. There were quite a lot of Scottish passengers on the cruise, as there often seem to be on P&O, and I didn't hear one of them say that they wanted Independence. Some of their comments about Nicola were unprintable. Also when we were in Tallin our young guide on a walking tour of the old city said Estonians really wanted Scotland to stay part of the Union. He said that Estonia had long experiece of being taken over by Russia and he and many Estonians felt that the UK would have a stronger voice as a United Union rather than separate countries so the feeling in Estonia was that they hoped the result would be a firm No.
The morning after the result was announced people seemed to be talking of nothing else and the general feeling was positive, much relief from the Scottish couple on our table.

Carole,
I can relate to that our "seat" was expected to be a walk over for the snp and was an early count that would reflect what people really thought and when it was announced that it was a remain part of the UK the commentators were speechless. One of the best feelings ever
there was a lot of bully tactics and nasty comments if you dared to say you wanted to remain part of the UK, silent majority won

From today daily covid updates will be replaced with weekly updates.
With covid going through the roof again perhaps the Government should reconsider the feel-good slogan of “keep life moving” and replace it with “here we go Again”?
