I started off with Rishi as my clear favourite. But the more I hear about Penny the more I like her. I'd just like to hear more details on a wider range of policies from all of them. Not that I have any say in the outcome. The eliminations so far have been pretty predictable.

That’s an interesting question Screwy…I don’t know if there have been any statistics that can answer that question but I would have thought the increase in ethnicity could influence how poll results are interpreted.

The fact the the likes of Truss, Rees-Mogg, Suella and others from the extreme right of the party continue to take aim at Mordaunt make me believe she is probably the right candidate. But it will all be in the policies.

First debate – Friday 15 July, 7pm Channel 4

Second debate – Sunday 17 July, 7pm, ITV

The second debate will air on ITV from 7pm on Sunday 17 July. It can be watched live or on catch-up on ITV Hub.

Donald Trump knew how to do an entertaining TV debate

I can't really say you learn a great deal from these debates unless there are just the final two candidates. Five is too many to give them all a fair crack of the whip and sometimes ends up with them all vying with each other to get their own point across.
I would much prefer to listen to each explaining their policies and how they hope to achieve them away from the usual politician's generalised waffle.

Agree totally, I don't want all the play acting, bitch-fest and land of make believe ... outline your policies, how you hope to fund them, over what timeframe etc..

On the basis that whatever policies any of them have they are totally irrelevant to me as I do not be have a vote to elect the next Conservative leader, nor can I influence the outcome in any way, so I will not be watching - but thanks for the heads up as to which channels not to watch.

Much depends on the interviewer as much as the politician. The trick is to steer them away from their prepared script. I quite like Sophie Ridge who asks the right question without being rude or forceful; of course, there are others eg Chris Mason.
Presenters like Kay Burley are just dreadful - rude, constantly interrupting, unrealistic and sarcastic. It's more about her own performance ("My viewers want to know!!!" ) than trying to open up the debate.

On the basis that whatever policies any of them have they are totally irrelevant to me as I do not be have a vote to elect the next Conservative leader, nor can I influence the outcome in any way, so I will not be watching - but thanks for the heads up as to which channels not to watch.

I don't have a vote and am not overly bothered just as long as Penny gets in.

I thought it was only me who felt like that about Kay Burley.
I actually can’t watch her.
If I put Sky news on and it’s her, I immediately turn over.
She’s so incredibly disrespectful and rude.
Her sidekick Beth Rigby is the same.
I loved the way Penny Mordaunt totally ignored her in the Palace of Westminster a couple of days back.

Just as long as you accept that any policies are based on one point in time, which will need constant reviews as circumstances change. But of course the media will continually want the successful candidate to justify why his manifesto promises have not been met.

Just as long as you accept that any policies are based on one point in time, which will need constant reviews as circumstances change. But of course the media will continually want the successful candidate to justify why his manifesto promises have not been met.

As long as we also accept that there is a huge difference between being 'flexible' and being 'reckless' by not having any plan or strategy (which is what we have experienced over the last few years). A proper well thought out strategy will have enough built in contingency to provide any flexibility for the majority of events ... war and epidemics excepted.
