I'll have some of whatever it is you're drinking.
Meanwhile we have yet to sign anybody and haven't managed to get rid of any of our deadwood who are all on exorbitant contracts more than their worth.

The season started today, I went to Bromley v Dartford. A typical pre season friendly. Not very good.

Re: Football 22/23
Ours wasn’t a bad match according to reports.
Lost 2-1 to Pompey but massively dominated and the fans went home happy.
Theirs was a 90 minute winner from a header from Connor Ogilvie who they signed from us last season.
Could have guaranteed he’d score
Palace next week. Their team is made up of previously injured, no covid jabs and fringe players.

Yes most of the players are on tour to Singapore and Australia. The players left behind beat Ipswich today 4-2 but it was played at our training ground behind closed doors. I haven't been to Priestfield for years so hoping to go next week.

Re: Football 22/23
Not a lot happening but we have unloaded a few Johnny foreigners, the new chap is aiming for home grown and is re-organising the set-ups in the under 16s through 23s.
We beat Wycombe 4:1 yesterday, it was our first goal of the pre season

Oldham have cancelled tonight’s friendly due to a frozen pitch.
If you have ever been to Oldham Athletic you’d get it.

It was away to Oldham that Ian Wright played his last game for Palace. He scored a hat trick and if I remember correctly it wasn't cold but it rained all day. 1991 I think.

Re: Football 22/23
Are you going tonight ?
Looks like Palace will be putting out a pretty decent team.
It shows publicly who hasn’t been covid vaccinated.
They’d probably been happier if that was kept private.
We are slowly getting towards some semblance of a team, but we’ll certainly get the runaround.
It’ll probably be attack v defence.
Hopefully a reasonable turnout.

Re: Football 22/23
Palace seem to have been buying in lots of young, promising blood and clearing out the older players. This bodes well for the future.
Meanwhile we seem to be stuck with a bunch of also-rand who are happy to sit back and enjoy their inflated salaries, above what they are worth, until their contracts wind down. However we should have enough experience in the team if we can avoid the catastrophic injuries we had last year.

Re: Football 22/23
No we're not going. We were sort of hoping that it would be called off and re arranged for tomorrow but reading ours and the Gills web site then it's definitely on. It's 38 here and with a 7 pm kick off we would have to leave about 5 pm. The traffic is normally really bad then so my mate didn't fancy sitting in the car for ages and it looks like the trains are a bit hit and miss. I agree with him, not worth it just for a friendly.
Hope you enjoy it though.
I'm sure we will be playing Gillingham again very soon if not in the league them maybe a cup.

Gills 2
Palace 3
A decent effort considering that we only had seven pros four weeks ago and against a pretty strong Palace team.
It looks like Harris has managed to put together a half decent team on a shoestring.
Hopefully now he can build a competitive squad.

Re: Football 22/23
Gills fans were very impressed with Zaha, who scored two.
He stayed behind after the game signing autographs for the fans.
Palace bought about a thousand.
It was competitive which is what fans want.

As a player he can get rattled when things don't go his way but nobody can deny his commitment to charity and using his wealth to help others. I also applaud his own stance against taking the knee whilst railing against racism. I like him.

Re: Football 22/23
Apparently he did have a slight problem with the Medway gravity on a couple of occasions but his penalty was stonewall.Manoverboard wrote: 20 Jul 2022, 09:21He would be a great bloke if he stopped diving for attention .... just saying![]()
He also had an altercation with a 19 year old midfielder for Gills who was making his debut.
Maybe establishing pecking order
Zaha got 2
Benteke 1
Olly Lee with both for Gills.

Possibly why he doesn't take the knee, he'd be wanting a free kick.Manoverboard wrote: 20 Jul 2022, 09:21He would be a great bloke if he stopped diving for attention .... just saying![]()
I can't be too critical since you only need a puff of wind and Madison goes down. (Could be the reason we don't give the opposing team curry for lunch).
