Spam Phone Call

Unread post by david63 »

So the phone rang just before and although I did not recognise the number it did not look like a junk number. Upon answering I realised it was an Indian call centre.

The conversation went as follows:

Me: Hello
Agent: Good afternoon Mr ....
Me: Yes
Agent: I am phoning about your call blocking service
Me: OK (I do not have a call blocking service)
Agent: Your call blocking service will be being upgraded tonight
Me: OK
Agent: When it is upgraded you will not get any unwanted calls
Me: You mean like this one?
Agent: ..........

Line goes dead!!

I had similar this morning with a guy calling for a 'market survey'

He ask me if I'd answer some questions so I replied that I would if we could come to agreement on terms.
He was obviously confused to go off script so I made it simple for him.

Me - you get paid for doing this , right?
Him - Yes
Me - so my information has a value, right ?
Him - I guess so
Me - so how much will you pay me for my information? You don't work for nothing so why would you expect me to?
Him - erm err erm err erm err
Ring off

This must be the day of spam calls for the forum members - I had a call this morning which looked like a local number so I answered and a guy with a distinctly not Welsh accent wanted me to have my loft inspected to see if I qualified for new loft insulation - got his hair off when I told him I didn't want it inspected - tough !!!

Calls like these I usually answer with “ Merseyside Police.” Goes very quiet and cuts off.

I will give it a go next time I'm asked to take part in a survey.

I've had a call twice now offering to resurface my drive. Only problem is I don't have a driveway!

Many years ago - well, not that many! & much to our children’s embarrassment, we had an old Sony telly that refused to die. Horror of horrors it didn’t even have a remote control. We were always getting calls from Sky etc offering their tv packages. The calls always ended in the same way. I would ask ‘do I need a scart socket?’ After an affirmative reply I would explain that our tv didn’t have one. This was often met with ‘Really?.

Scart sockets I remember those, the cables were thumb thickness and very stiiff, amazing when you look at the latest slender HDMI cables which are so much more flexible and far lighter than the old scart cables.

apologies to the sensitive in advance...

we now have a blocker, so few get through, but my pet answer when told they were ringing about my recent accident was:

Oh, is that the one where I died?

I think we seem to have lost our Sky shield blocker when we moved house, however we now have a new number and so far we no longer seem to be bothered with nuisance calls.

We have BT phones with the blocking facility plus Caller Display so if it doesn't display a name we don't answer. The caller, if genuine, will ring again or contact one of us on a mobile else by e-mail. We then add them to the ' Phone List '.

So basically we do not get unwanted calls.
