Brilliant photos, even more atmospheric because it's in the dark. I hope by tomorrow afternoon when they are going to take the Queen's coffin to Westminster Hall from Buckingham Palace that it stops raining.

It's worrying.......Onelife wrote: 13 Sep 2022, 10:12I think you and me have an uncanny way of agreeing with each other…other than when you are wrong of courseoldbluefox wrote: 13 Sep 2022, 08:43I get tired of hearing the expression "It's my right".
It's also the right of those who were there and had waited for hours to pay their respects not to have it disturbed by some clownwith his own agenda.

I thought it was a nice touch last night when the police out riders lined each side of the entrance to Buckingham Palace and all kept their heads bowed while the hearse went through the gates.
Ma’am has certainly clocked up some miles since her passing. Hopefully after today she can soon finally R.I.P

In a time when there are so many poignant moments I thought that as well.Stephen wrote: 14 Sep 2022, 07:11I thought it was a nice touch last night when the police out riders lined each side of the entrance to Buckingham Palace and all kept their heads bowed while the hearse went through the gates.
I also thought that those eight lads that carried her coffin in Edinburgh did an excellent job. At all times they were so respectful yet you could see the sense of occasion on their faces - bet they had a few pints last night.

King Charles has not stopped since the death of of his mother, our beloved Queen Elizabeth 11.
It may have shown that things were creeping on him, when he forgot the date at a signing ceremony in Northern Ireland, and got upset at the "bloody pen" after getting ink on his hand.
How he holds it together at all these ceremonies beats me.

I wonder how many conversations have gone like this recently?
To supplier "Can we have xyz?"
Supplier "We are still recovering from Covid and with supply chain issues and the cost of living crisis it will be at least six weeks"
To supplier "It's for the Queen's funeral"
Supplier "What time tomorrow did you say you wanted it?"

I'm wondering how many of those posting poisonous anti-monarchist comments on Facebook or waving anti-monarchist placards will still be expecting a day off work on Monday to pay their respects to the Queen.

Maybe they will be working supplying food and drink to those who are queuing to see Her Majesty and then clearing up the streets afterwards.
Alright, maybe not.
I don't buy into their "unelected in a democracy". We do elect our political party which in turn elects a leader (although I realise Tony and the Labour party didn't) but we also have a non political Head of State who keeps a wether eye on what is happening. I expect the US wish they had had someone to keep a check on their President.

If they don't like our system then there are plenty of other countries that have a different system that might be more in line with their beliefs - Afghanistan is one that comes to mind!!

I see Russia has announced that Putin does not plan to attend the Queen's funeral. Did they seriously think he would be invited?

I was going to say anyone who doesn’t want to live in a country with a monarchy can F off to Ireland or France or some other god forsaken land.

Am I being picky when I get irritated by journalists on the radio (not the BBC) referring to the Queen's casket? This is the UK not the USA. It's a coffin.

Not being picky at all. I get quite exasperated by the poor quality of the English language we experience from journalists on the radio and television, including the BBC.

Not helped by some of the words that they make up - such as when the King is "coronated"

May be a case of thinking their report sounds more upmarket by slipping in these words. Lesser mortals may think how posh, after all the ancient wording used in the passing of her Majesty.

Re: [Split] Current Affairs - The Queen
We're going to Warner Hotel's Studley Castle this weekend (booked a long time back) and they've taken a rather different approach to the Centre Parks (now back-tracked a bit) "sod off" policy. They are screening the funeral on Monday in their public rooms. Guests, like us, leaving on Monday, still have to check out of our rooms by 10am, but are then welcome to stay to watch the funeral. Guests arriving Monday are welcome to arrive early to watch it, though their rooms won't be available until 4pm, an hour later than usual, presumably to enable staff to take time out to watch. There won't be the usual evening entertainment but daytime activities, bars, restaurant etc. will be paused for two hours to enable staff to watch the funeral but will then resume. A much more sensible approach.

Why do the media, more specifically the BBC, continue to refer to the King and Queen consort, I don't believe that Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth, who were both also Queen consorts ever referred to in such a way, so why do they need to use this for Camilla.

I think it was what the Queen wanted as she thought people like me would struggle to see her as anything other than "----" Camilla.towny44 wrote: 16 Sep 2022, 10:10Why do the media, more specifically the BBC, continue to refer to the King and Queen consort, I don't believe that Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth, who were both also Queen consorts ever referred to in such a way, so why do they need to use this for Camilla.
