The cynic in me says that she did a deal with Tory Grandees - tax cuts for votes!
That wouldn’t surprise me either - it’s been said throughout the summer that she’s under the control of the ERG
Are there any Tory Grandees in the ERG?

I certainly will need a lot more convincing that the Labour party can delivery an alternative other than...” we’ll do this” until a few years later when we find…” they didn’t do that”.
Is that any different to the last 6 years of toryism ... a litany of lies, broken promises, incompetence and u-turns.

I am still trying to figure out what logic Truss is working on. In the meantime Kwarteng has tried to calm the markets by claiming that there is a strategy to pay for all this shaking of the tory magic money (although maybe 'uprooting and wringing the life out of the magic money tree' would be a better description) ... I am guessing he just hasn't though of it been told what it is ... yet!!!

She did appoint many ERG subscribers to prominent cabinet roles including Coffee, Rees Mogg, Braverman, Cleverly etc. ... it is a party within a party.

No difference at all Ken, it’s a contagious condition which has infected the whole of our political system without apparently any cure.

Indeed something seriously needs to be done to bring integrity back to our politicians.

Various lenders have pulled their mortgage products with immediate effect. . Borrowing money to buy a house is about to get more expensive.

To be more accurate, after skillfully negotiating the price of gold downwards, he sold about 56% of the UKs gold reserves for $3.5bn ... to put that into perspective, that amount would pay about 10 days worth of interest on the debt that has been run up by the tories since they came to power.

The UK still has over 300 tonnes of gold.

If we had Gordon Brown in charge he could have got three crates of Amstel and a box of cheese and onion crisps with that.

What about Queuegate?
I feel sorry for Willoughby and Schofield ... they weren't the only 2 'celebrities' seen bypassing the queue ... not forgetting politicians that gave themselves special passes allowing them to skip the queue (plus 4 guests each). So I am not sure why the vitriol is being pointed only at 2 people who may (or may not) have had legitimate reason for not being in the queue.

Seems to be getting blown totally out of proportion.

For security reasons I can understand why some MPs were given priority but 4 guests? Unless there was a security issue they should have queued like the rest of us. Similarly I'm not sure what more journalists could write by being there which they couldn't write by viewing the online coverage. They, including Willoughby and Schofield took advantage of a loophole which should not have existed. Rightly those who spent hours in the queue feel aggrieved. Thank goodness the weather was kind.

Couldn’t have put it better myself Foxy.
If David Beckham can queue for twelve hours then so should everyone else, no matter who you are.

Not questioning if it was right or wrong, of course they should have queued, as should every single person (irrespective of perceived position or role) ... but more that the level of kickback is totally out of proportion. I am sure there are other queue jumping 'celebrities' that are choosing to keep a low profile at the minute. :shh:

Why all the fuss about rising interest rates? They've been at ridiculous low levels since the financial crash to help the profligate who spent money they didn't have borrowed from lenders who failed to check their ability to repay. Those who had been prudent and saved lost out, as usual. About time we got more interest on our savings and the minds of those borrowing were focused.

Was it necessary for them to jump the queue? I would have thought they (and others) could have enhanced their reports by taking in the queuing experience both personally and professionally. I have no sympathy for them or any others who took advantage of their position. Susannah Reid and David Beckham could have jumped the queue on the same pretext and didn't. It was the decision they made presumably because they felt it was wrong. The rest didn't but instead used their fame and privilege. No I don't feel sorry for them.

Btw I'm not a fan of Beckham but fair dues to him.👍

That's not what I said John, and you know it.

I'm sure there were others flouting the queuing policy but didn't get picked out by cameras that I'm aware of.

There were probably other firms having Xmas parties as well, but that didn't stop Boris from being hounded by the media, as well as certain members of this forum.
